GIOVANNI MARSICO Obituary
Giovanni Marsico, age 85, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on June 24, 1939, in Altilia, Grimaldi, Cosenza, Italy. In 1970, he immigrated to Canada, and in 1973, he was joyfully reunited with his beloved wife and children.
Giovanni was known for his kind heart, strong work ethic, and unwavering devotion to his family. He spent his life working in construction, with his proudest years spent alongside his beloved son, Pasquale, building beautifully crafted homes that reflected their care and craftsmanship. More than just father and son, they shared a deep bond and were truly the best of friends.
Giovanni's greatest joy, however, was found in his garden, where he spent countless days with his cherished wife, Teresa. Together, they cultivated vibrant rows of vegetables, lovingly harvested and preserved - then shared generously with family, friends, and anyone fortunate enough to know him.
He was a man of quiet generosity, never hesitating to offer the fruits of his labor or the warmth of his heart. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and his love for his family was always at the center of everything he did.
Giovanni will be remembered not only for his wisdom and strength but also for the rare and beautiful balance he carried within. He was a true man's man - steady and dependable - yet deeply sensitive and compassionate. He led with quiet confidence, gave without asking for anything in return, and loved with his whole heart.
He is survived by his children: Rosaria (Tony) Turco, Pasquale (Grace) Marsico, Silvana Marsico, and Marcellina Asmundson (née Marsico); his grandchildren: Michele (Francesca) Turco, Rosalina (Ivan) Sergi, Megan and Nicole Marsico, Dylan (Kid) Asmundson, Brandon (Jessie) Asmundson, and Kyle Asmundson; and his great-grandchildren: Victoria and Emma Turco, and Samuel and Susan Sergi.
He is also lovingly remembered by numerous other relatives in Thunder Bay and abroad, especially in Italy.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Teresa; his parents, Pasquale and Rosaria Marsico; his parents-in-law, Giovanni and Ortensia Russo; and many extended family members in both Italy and Thunder Bay.
His presence will be profoundly missed, but the impact he had on those around him will be felt forever. In honour of his memory, donations can be made to the Northern Cancer Fund.
A private funeral will be held with close family and friends.
