Gordon Fenelon Obituary

September 4, 1931 ~March 23, 2013It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Gordie who died peacefully on March 23rd with his wife and family by his side at his residence in Princess Court, Dryden, Ontario. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Rita (Legros) of 55 years, son Maurice (Joanie), daughters Marcia Latham (Bill) and Sheila (Merv), grandchildren Shannon Hutchison (Shawn), Paige, Crystal, Shauna and Austin, great-grandchildren Jeremy, Logan and Ryley Hutchison, sisters Lenora Hooker and Valerie Paul, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gordie was predeceased by his parents Nora Louise and Bert Fenelon, brothers Garnet, Cy, Gerry, Jimmy, Robert, Bert Jr., and sister Bernice. Gordie was born in Sioux Lookout; he worked for the Ministry of Natural Resources for 38 years. In 1958 he married Rita Legros and built their first home on Drayton Road in Sioux Lookout. In 1962 Gordie became Chief Ranger in Pickle Lake; in 1963 he transferred back to Sioux Lookout as Chief Ranger. In 1967 Gordie and Gurney Baverstock formed and built Abram Lake Tent and Trailer Park. Gordie was also a member of the Sioux Lookout Fire Department for 19 years, until transferring to Fort Frances in the fall of 1973 as Field Service Supervisor where he made many good friends. In the spring of 1976, another move, this time to Kenora, as Engineer Service Co-ordinator. After barely settling in their home came another move in May of 1977. Gordie's new job was as Fire Control Co-ordinator at the Fire Centre in Dryden; again Gordie built another new home. On January 31st 1985 Gordie retired from the MNR, one more time building their dream home on the lake in Sioux Lookout. In 1989 they sold their Abram Lake Park and retired completely. Gordie loved the outdoors, enjoying fishing and hunting. He enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchildren. Rita and Gordie spent 12 wonderful winter years in Mesa Arizona. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday March 27th, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church with Reverend Father Alan Campeau officiating, concelebrated by Reverend Michael Mahoney, of Sacred Heart Church in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. Interment of ashes will be held at a later date in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation, Parkinson Society, or Princess Court DECO through the Stevens Funeral Homes, P.O. Box 412, Dryden, ON P8N 2Z1.
