Grant Lindsey Obituary

Grant William Lindsey passed away in St. Joseph's Hospital, on Thursday August 3, 2017, with his family by his side. He was born in Peterborough on February 28, 1956 and grew up in Deep River, Ontario. After graduating from the University of Waterloo as an electrical engineer in 1980, he started his career at the Terrace Bay Paper Mill, working his way to Thunder Bay at Great Lakes Forest Product and Abitibi Mission Mill. He later moved on to work for Hydro One. Grant married his loving wife Armagail North, and together they raised two daughters Hannah and Hayley. Grant's greatest joy was working on boats, a passion first developed in his early teenage years. He started out on small boats and worked his way up to larger vessels, and thoroughly enjoyed cruising on Lake Superior each summer with his family and friends. Grant also loved working with his hands, completing countless projects around the home and boat. He greatly valued all of the tips and tricks he received from the Trades community that helped along the way. Grant led a very active life and was involved in many activities including running, cross country skiing, and scuba diving. He also had an appreciation for music and birds. He shared his active lifestyle with his daughters, coaching the girls' hockey teams and encouraging them to complete their own scuba diving certificates. When these activities became too difficult to keep up with, he shifted his attention to water colour painting and became increasingly spiritual. He was very grateful for the mentorship and friendship of Peter Humeniuk and the painting group. Grant will be deeply missed by his wife Armagail; daughters Hannah (Matt) and Hayley; parents June and William; siblings Steve (Kiki), John, and Joanne (Joe); his nieces, nephews and loving extended family. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2017, when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 10:00am, at St. Agnes Church, 1019 Brown Street, celebrated by Rev. James Panikulam. Prayers will be offered Wednesday August 9, 2017 at 7:00pm in the Blake Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Grant to the Northern Cancer Fund would be appreciated.

Grant Lindsey will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 10, 2018.

Sad news of a past classmate. Shared fond school memories, particularly of Grade 10 Latin class.

The "boys" looking for DR chicks!

Very saddened to hear the news. Grant was a good friend during our Deep River years. We were very close buds during high school, taking swimming lessons, boating, biking, camping and hiking along the Ottawa River.

I have many good memories of adventures of all sorts. I also have some stories for his wife and kids, whenever we meet again.

I am confident that he is now "buds" with St. Peter and is walking Trixie on a mountain trail or racing his speedboat past Lamure Beach and across the Ottawa River....into forevermore.

Miss you man - keep the beer cool and the water warm. See you on the other side.

Blessings,

Randy

Very sorry to read of Grant's passing. Grant and I lived one street apart in Deep River and went to MacKenzie High School together. I remember Grant always had such a great smile and quiet manner. Condolences to family and friends. Keep your memories close.

We were saddened to hear of Grant's passing.

I knew Grant mostly through boating.
During the Red Rock Regatta in July 1998 while in Loon Harbour Grant donned his scuba gear and cut a portion of an errant reefing line which had fused itself into a tight ring around the prop shaft of Northing. This was the result of the mayhem during a severe squall going up the Nipigon Straights two days previously.
During the layover day in Red Rock, Hannah Lindsey and Gail's brother Rodney joined the crew on Northing for an exciting race in 35kn gusts.

Grant was a kind and generous person willing to help anybody. He was also skilled in many ways.

He will be now boating on smoother seas.

Thinking of you at this sad time.

Sad to hear of Grants passing. Will always picture him flying down a ski trail at Kamview with a smile on his face. He and I shared our medical problems which ended both of our ski days but I'll remember him as a great guy, a friend. Sorry I can't make it to the service but just got out of hospital. With sadnessBob Bradley
