1957 ~ 2026
It is with sadness that the family of Hans Huitsing announce his passing on Friday January 9, 2026, after a battle with cancer.
Hans was born, on September 24, 1957 to Heero and Klaassina Huitsing. Along with 8 other siblings, Hans spent much time outdoors mingling with the neighborhood kids.
After his grade school years Hans attended Hammarskjold High. This is where he discovered his interest in wood working and gave rise to his career in carpentry. It was also where he met many of his lifelong friends.
Hans worked as a carpenter for several local contractors throughout the years. He always took great pride in his work. He moved to Edmonton for a few years where he completed his formal carpentry training. Hans returned to Thunder Bay where he continued his trade.
At an early age Hans began to show his lifelong passion of the outdoors and being on the water. His numerous camping and fishing trips were spent with cousins, friends and siblings.
Hans also really enjoyed playing hockey with his friends on the Road Runners and Stanley Hotel teams. He was a Blue Jays fan, and he enjoyed getting out to the racetrack when he was able.
Hans adored his nieces and nephews, and they absolutely adored him in return.
Hans lived his life simply, with humility and kindness. He will be forever missed by his siblings Willy and Mike Folkema, John Huitsing, Harry and Sylvia Huitsing, Geri and Lou Kingma, Theresa and Martin Henny, Pete Huitsing, Angela and Randy VanKooten, Krista and Al Roote, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and their children
Hans was predeceased by his parents Heero and Klaassina Huitsing as well as his sisters-in-law Joanne and Sheila.
