With heavy hearts we announce our dad, Harold Hakala, age 61 years, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side, Saturday, May 10th, 2014. A life long resident of South Gillies, he enjoyed his family and work. He stayed close to where his heart was both on the family homestead and in the bush as a logger. He was a self taught man of many skills and a patient teacher. His love of the outdoors kept him busy whether fixing, building, chopping firewood, or simply enjoying the beauty of the Great Northwest. He spent many memorable summers travelling and camping with family. He and his family enjoyed spending time at Shebandowan Lake cottage and firing up the sauna he built. Harold is lovingly remembered by his wife Margit of 39 years, children Karen (Josef Mitteregger), Julie (Shawn Jaspers), and Jon (Jenna); grandchildren Tristan, Ellie, and Jett (Jaspers); sister Helen (Mario Taddeo); sister in-law Eva Hakala and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Aili and Ensi, dear brother Sulo, and godson Matthew Hakala. Thank you to family and friends for ongoing love and support. Special thanks to homecare nurse Linda, Dr Sicheri and the 1A team at the TBRHSC.His sense of humour, gentle nature, and wisdom will be greatly missed by all. Friends so wishing may contribute to a trust fund set up for Harold through any CIBC bank, account 00897-83-45732. Harold's Fund will be donated for patient sponsorship to the Leiomyosarcoma Foundation Retreat. Private interment will take place. A celebration of life starting at 4pm on Friday May 16, 2014 will be held at the South Gillies Community Hall.Online condolencesmay be made through
