HECTOR "MICHAEL" MURCHISON July 26, 1943 ~ March 29, 2026
It is with deep sadness that the family of Mike Murchison tell you that Mike has passed peacefully, at the age of 82 years, at Hogarth Riverview Manor, Thunder Bay.
Mike (Tally) was born in Macdiarmid, Ontario on July 26, 1943. He was the son in the middle of two sisters and lived with his great grandmother, grandmother and mother in Macdiarmid. He later moved to Thunder Bay with his family. Mike was very fortunate to meet Roberta (Bertie), and they had two beautiful children - Aileen and James "Jamie". Years later Mike met his wife Faye in Geraldton and together they had 42 years of love and companionship. They were everything to each other and always each other's whole world. A true blessing and comfort to Mike was having his nephew, Roger Rozon, who to him he considered a son, always close to him and caring for him. They had a very special bond that will never be broken.
Mike worked for Great Lakes, Department of Highways, various surveying companies, was Assistant Town Foreman in Geraldton, Town Engineer in Nipigon, Maintenance Manager at Thunder Bay District Housing Authority and Capital Officer at Indian & Northern Affairs Canada, retiring in 2004. He was a member on the Board of Governors-Confederation College and founding member of Nokiiwin Tribal Council.
Mike was a very proud member, past Councillor and Elder for Kiashke Zaaging Anishinaabek (Gull Bay First Nation). He worked on many projects for and with Gull Bay.
Mike will be missed and remembered always by his wife Faye, his children Aileen and Jamie, by his nephew/son Roger (Christeen). By his son Corey, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mike was predeceased by his parents Joseph Hardy and Nora Murchison, and his sisters Margaret (Gandy) and Debra (Tootie). With his parents and sisters - Mike will be welcomed home by his great grandmother (Lisette Netewassang) and grandmother (Helene Kadjish).
The family would like to thank all the staff at Hogarth Riverview Manor, 5th floor N, Marigold. You are wonderful caring, compassionate, and dedicated people. We appreciate everything that you did for Mike daily. You care so much.
As per Mike's wishes there will not be a funeral service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Mike has been cremated and his ashes will become "parting stones" and taken back to Gull Bay and Macdiarmid / Rocky Bay - to the resting places of his ancestors.
Expressions of sympathy - only your thoughts and caring are needed.
