Helen Gillespie Obituary

(Cermak)
It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my wife Helen Marie Gillespie (Cermak). Helen died peacefully at her home December 13, 2015 surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born January 26, 1947 in Red Deer, Alberta; residing most of her life in Thunder Bay. Helen worked with challenged children in B.C. and Thunder Bay. Always caring for others, Helen became a devoted volunteer with many local organization including St. John Ambulance therapy dog program with her loyal companion Bandit. She was a fun loving Red Hat member, an avid bridge player, a dedicated member and volunteer with Operation Hope. Helen will be deeply missed by her husband Bob, sons Dale and Darren, step-sons Patrick, Stewart and Shane; six grandchildren Vanessa, Shaylean, Joey, Robert, Christopher, Robert, and great grandson Logan; brother Richard (Marg), sister Irene (Dave), in-laws Julie, Ian (Heather), Roberta (Neil) and many nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Predeceased by her parents Tony and Anna-Marie Cermak, mother-in-law Marie Gillies and many other loved ones. Special thank-you to our granddaughter Vanessa for her loving, compassionate care of her Granny. With Vanessa's academic training as a paramedic and Bob's loving care, Helen was able to remain home per her wishes. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 405 Waverley St from 1 to 3pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Operation Hope or the charity of your choice.

I am so sorry for your loss, Gillespie's,
while i never knew Helen very well, her friendliness, compassion and hope, always gave me a little more faith in humanity. She had always inspired me in so many ways, many times simply from a kind word or a hug. She made me realize that i should not only care about myself, my problems, my life, but to care about the lives of others, to help them, and to show everyone that somewhere, someone cares, and is praying for you.
