Helen Johnston Obituary

Mrs Helen Johnston, former resident of Assef Court, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital Palliative Care Unit on Sept. 12, 2004 on her 88th birthday. She was born Sept. 12, 1916 in Port Arthur and she lived a few years in Eastern Ontario and California before returning to Fort William in 1928 . Helen was proud of the fact that during her lifetime she travelled throughout the United States visiting 48 of the 50 states. She was a member of the Fort William Country Club, Fort William Curling Club, Green Acres Bowling League, and the ANAF Ladies Auxiliary #247. She was a long time member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Helen worked for many years as a sales clerk at Gerry's Furniture Store and Gascoigne's Drug Store.She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Norman Johnston, sister Viola, brothers Walter and Roy Landyke, nephew Henry Archer, great nephew Henry Archer Jr. and great niece Shirley Finlayson. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Shirley and Nick Ulakovic, four grandchildren Bill (Bev), Jim (Donna), Terry and Nancy (Mike), six great grandchildren John and Katie Ulakovic, Nikki and Jimmy Ulakovic, Tallon and Terran Morris, also dear friends Phyllis Thompson, Muriel and Vic Sutton. She is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at Mountainview Cemetery officiated by Rev. Bert Vancook of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. If friends so desire memorial donations may be made to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation of Thunder Bay or the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Thunder Bay."
