HENRY HOGARD Obituary

With deep sorrow our family announces the passing of a dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Henry Lauritz Hogard, 92, passed peacefully on Sunday morning September 22, 2024 at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital.

Henry was born in Port Arthur on May 30, 1932, and spent his childhood growing up at Pass Lake with his parents and 2 siblings. The Hogard family moved to Current River in 1940. Henry attended Current River Public School and later Port Arthur Colligate Institute. In September 1952 he married Linnea Seppala, the love of his life. Henry and Lin had three children, and the family spent many years at their camp at Green Point on Lake Superior. Henry worked as a Journeyman Plumber for 20 years, serving several terms as Union Executive for Local 628. In 1968 he accepted a position helping develop a training program with the Ontario Government's Industrial Training Branch as an Apprenticeship Trades Counsellor until his retirement in 1992.

In retirement Henry and Linnea loved to travel by car, motorhome and air, visiting Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Europe, Australia, and camping at many lakes in Northwestern Ontario. He especially enjoyed fishing and hunting at his camp on Lake Nipigon with friends and extended family, and he was a lifetime member of the Current River Fish Club.

Henry is survived by his wife of 72 years, Linnea; sons Carl (Allana), Ray (Jo-Anne) and Larry (Barbara); grandsons Michael and Kurt (Jessica); granddaughters Katelin and Zoe, great grandson Lane; sister-in-law Irma Hogard; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Grethe (Mazanti) and Lauritz Hogard; in-laws Lydia and Arvo Salo; brother Tom; sister Laura; sister-in-law Aila Harri; and brothers-in-law Donald Dyck and Esko Wirtanen.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Henry's life will be held in the lower-level reception hall of Harbourview Funeral Centre on Friday, October 4, 2024 from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Sun and his team, and the dedicated physicians, nurses and support staff of 3A at TBRHSC, where Henry received excellent care in his final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Henry's memory may be made to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation.
