2016
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Herbert Richard Nicholetts on Tuesday, January 5th, 2016, after a long and courageous battle with cancer and kidney disease. Herb was born September 19, 1937 at McKellar Hospital and grew up and lived in Murillo. Herb started an apprenticeship as an auto-body repairman in Geraldton, and spent most of his career in the field. He spent many years curling at the Kakabeka Curling Club, and had great fun racing at Riverview Raceway. Herb enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting at Sandstone and Arrow Lakes in the summer with his family and friends, and was an avid snowbird, spending many winters in Texas and Arizona. Herb was a lifelong volunteer fire fighter in Murillo. Herb was predeceased by his parents Henry and Beatrice, sister Doris, and infant daughter Robin. He is survived by partner Mildred Law, children Richelle (Debbie), Russ (Janet), grandchildren Cale and Jazmin, sisters Phyllis and Maybella, as well as extended family and friends. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at the Murillo Town Hall at a later date. Family would like to thank all of the staff at TBRHSC and SJCG for their support in making Dad as comfortable as possible for his final days. A huge thank you to friends and family for your visits, thoughts, and prayers. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Northern Cancer Fund or the Kidney Foundation of Canada - Northern Superior Chapter.

So sorry to hear about Herbie's passing. I'll never forget how he let my Dad add onto his little barn so I could fit my pony in there ... He always called me Axle or Axle Grease, never by my name. Really sad to hear that he's gone.. Gone but not forgotten... XOXO

I'll always remember Herbie as one of my dad's best friends and fishing buddy. He had a great sense of humour and wit. I remember many fond memories of camping with him at Sandstone and Arrow lake. He will be missed. Rest in peace.

So sad to hear of the passing of one of my very favourite people. I regret not seeing him for so many years but smile whenever I remember that fantastic dry humour and tremendous wit. Herb was truly one of a kind.

I met Herbie in about 1962. He had a Skidoo when nobody else did. He came to see us in 1965 when we lived in California. I had a sawmill set up at his place in Murillo in 1967 after returning from California and we cut the lumber for our house.....and Oh! the blurred memories of the New Year's Eve parties.
In 1971 we both hobbled around together. I had broken my ankle playing hockey against Murillo. Funny he was not on the opposing team. He had a broken back from a stock car accident.
We had identical black Ford trucks, with campers in 1974. It was off to the states for the races (if we weren't fishing).
In 1986 we drove to Belize and sailed the Caribbean.
In 1988 I hired him and in my plane, we flew to Baker Lake in the western Arctic to do a job.
Then, there was the water skiing and parasailing at Sandstone and more blurry nights singing around the camp fire.
We hunted together for more than 15 years and spent many great times at his camp at Arrow Lake.
We spent the millenium New Year's Eve together at our daughter's house in Houston.
Many more memories, too numerous to mention. As I write this I have tears in my eyes and a big hole in my heart, as part of me passed on with him.

I was very happy to have known Herb in the 90's and am very sad to hear of his passing. Herb was intelligent, gentle, considerate and a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. He could play a mean game of crib, enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. I lost touch with Herb after that and am still not sure why. He was a good friend and I have many great memories of the time we spent together. I remember he was a proud member of the volunteer fire service which he always reminded me had never lost a foundation.
Rest in peace friend, you will be missed.
