Horst was a good friend of my dad's since I was a baby in the early 90's and lived close by my childhood home. He was always very helpful and giving, and when I got older and learned to speak German, I would practise with him over the phone. He would tell wonderful stories, and we would discuss literature (Faust in particular.) I am grateful for those memories of him.
Horst, du bist ein shoen Freund... God bless you.

Horst was a good and hardworking man.
He had a hard and difficult childhood and youth.
He had to work in a coal mine underground in Germany while still very young.
Canada became his new and loved homeland.
Unfortunately, we could not stay together as family.
Dear Dad, Horst, we hope your soul will rest in peace with the Lord, our Father, for which we pray with all our heart.
We have and will always keep you in our hearts.
Your son John, and Ilse (wife)
Thank you, Elaine for your kind words, and also to everyone who remembers him.

I knew Horst since the day he joined the karate club so many years ago. He had just moved to Canada but was immediately accepted into our circle of friends. He was a good man with a heart of gold, who enjoyed life. I will certainly miss him.

I got to know Horst through his karate friends, and I have many good memories with him both when I was in Canada and when he was in Japan. I still remember vividly when he and I sat in front of a fireplace in a pension near Mt. Fuji and emptied a couple bottles of local wine. He will live in my memory for many more years.

I knew Horst for many years. He and my late husband Lawrence use to do karate, then they looked at the bat caves and fished some. Lots of sauna's at camp We moved away to B.C so distance made it harder.
If Johnny Remus gets this we feel so sad for you and your Mother who we became friends with, when she lived here. You both were very missed. Here and in B.C. To the many times we came down here on short trips..
My sympathy to you both Elaine Hrominchuk
