ILONA TOIVONEN

Mrs. Ilona Toivonen (nee Ohraniemi), age 86, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026 at Hogarth Riverview Manor. Ilona was a quiet, gentle person who enjoyed a good cup of tea while listening to CBC Radio or watching her favorite TV shows at her long-time residence in Murillo. She and her husband, Lauri went on several road trips over the years which included visits to the Yukon, Northwest Territories, Newfoundland, and Arizona. Ilona was a dedicated volunteer for the Northwestern Fur Trappers, where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and helper for the annual conventions.

Ilona is survived by her sons Kelvin (Kathy), and Donald; grandchildren, Kirsti (Attila), and Kurtis (Kendra); great grandchildren, Kallie, Kasen, and Reijo; sisters, Irene, Ingrid, and brother Evert. Predeceased by her husband, Lauri; brothers-in-law, Dennis Christie, Pete Gutmann, and Don Fisher, and her parents Ester and Evert Sr.

A special thank you to the staff of Hogarth Birchgrove for their excellent care over the years. A private family service will be held in the spring.
