INGRID BERTHA KREKER
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ingrid Bertha Kreker announce her peaceful passing at Hogarth Riverview Manor on January 12, 2026, at the age of 89.
She was born in Ahrensburg, Germany on July 3, 1936, the youngest child of Johann and Alma Kroger. She married the love of her life, Alfred Kreker, on August 3, 1957. In 1959, following her sister, they left Germany and moved to Port Arthur, Ontario with their daughter, Liane. In 1960, they bought a house in Current River, where they raised their family, which expanded with the births of daughters, Barbara and Linda.
She started working part time after Linda started school, working in the mailroom at the Chronicle Journal. The birth of her first grandchild, Kyle, ended her work life as she stayed home to look after him. Now known as Oma, she continued to watch all of her 6 grandchildren, as each one came along. Each of them were special to her and she loved them all so much. There were always meals being prepared with an open invitation for the parents to join them for dinner when picking up their children. There could be as many as 14 people in her kitchen enjoying the meals she prepared.
She loved to sew and the Kreker girls generally wore matching dresses growing up. In later years, she sewed most of the grandchildren's Halloween costumes. If they wanted it, she made it happen. She loved flowers and plants, and her yard and house were always covered in them. She instilled in her girls a love of flowers, needlework and sewing.
Looking after Alfred, after he was diagnosed with dementia, was just something she needed to do. With her care, he was able to stay at home until he passed in 2019.
Diagnosed with Parkinsons several years ago was just another hurdle for her to overcome until she was no longer able to. The debilitating symptoms just became too much for her, and she moved into Hogarth Riverview Manor in January 2025.
Ingrid will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Liane (Bruce) MacAskill, daughter Linda (Rino) Belcamino, son-in-law Rodney Rask and her grandchildren, Kyle and Taylor MacAskill, Lucas and Tia Belcamino and Eric and Caitlyn Rask.
She was predeceased by her parents Johann and Alma Kroger, her brothers Otto, Arnold and Gunther, her sister Gertrude, daughter Barbara Rask and grandson Cory MacAskill.
There will be no formal service, but a private family interment will be held at a later date. Should friends so desire, donations can be made to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre or to St. Joseph's Care Group Foundations.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of 6S Tulip at Hogarth Riverview Manor. We could not have done it without you and each of you know how special you are to us and to mom. We would also like to express our gratitude and thanks to Dr. J. Garon for her compassion and care. Thank you all so much!
