IRENE ANNESS Obituary


It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Irene Marilyne Anness (Hailio),age 82. She passed away peacefully January 2 2025.

Born in Port Arthur November 20 1942. She worked at numerous jobs supporting her family. She enjoyed reading, painting, knitting, crocheting and spending time with her dear friends Darlene, Ethal, Diane and Marry. She also enjoyed the Thunder Bay Auditorium.

Irene was predeceased by her parents Vihteri and Hilija Hailio, son Earl Anness and sister Linda Hailio. She is survived by her brothers Albert and Ed Hailio, sister Margaret (Wayne) Bilbrough, son Victor Anness, daughters Susan (Sharon) Anness, Tara (Terry) Hurst. Grandchildren Kara (Jevon) Kavalchuk, Shae Holmberg, Matthew and Brian Anness, 4 great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews along with cousins in Finland.

Irene spent the last 5 years at Hogarth Orchid 5 south. We would like to send our sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff for the care and attention they gave to her.

A celebration of life will take place in late spring for close friends and family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.

Friends for over 70 years, a fond farewell to a warm and caring person. She was a star on the Balsam School baseball team. When Irene got up to bat, the fielders had to move back back back. Our sympathy to her family.

A beautiful lady, she was a good friend to my dad at Hogarth, made his life there more comfortable, she had a beautiful personality, as well as an uplifting spirit I had many a coffee and conversation with Irene, RIP beautiful lady.
