February 10, 1940 –
April 17, 2023
It is with great sadness, we the family of Irene LeBlanc (nee Plante) announce her passing on April 17, 2023, at the age of 83. After bravely battling illnesses, Irene's request to spend her final days at home surrounded by loved ones, was fulfilled.
Our mom, Irene, was short in stature but a power house of persistence and personality! Born in Laforce, Témiscaming and having only attended school until Grade 2, our mom eventually went on to raise 6 children (no small feat!) and always encouraged us to finish school in order to have better lives of our own.
Being a Mom was Irene's full-time occupation and she was not only a mom to us, but to everyone who came into her life. Offering food, coffee/tea, and unique conversations weaving between French (her first language) and English, she was truly a blessing to all.
In 2018, mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's/dementia and, in March 2022, she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Through it all, she was able to remain living in the home that she and her husband/our dad worked so hard for, largely due to the loving and selfless care provided by her granddaughter Dawn Tetrault along with her (Dawn's) family, Merle Raymond and Jerome Wilson.
Irene is survived by her children Leo, Lise, Ginette, Luc, Gerald, and Linda, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and the significant others that allowed the family tree to flourish.
Irene was predeceased by her loving husband in 2017, Gerard LeBlanc, as well as her parents, sister Marie Kerr, and brothers Rheal Plante and Jean-Claude Plante.
Although mom/grandma/great grandma/great great grandma will be deeply missed by those of us left behind, she loved the Lord and gave her life to Jesus… and she is now in His loving arms, reunited with Gerard and all the family that passed before her.
Mom, there is no greater gift than the love and sacrifices you have made for us, and you will ALWAYS have a place in our hearts that no one will ever be able to fill. There is no greater gift than Mom!
Irene's Celebration of Life service will be held at New Life Christian Fellowship of Thunder Bay, 203 Ogden Street, Thunder Bay, ON P7C 2N2, on Saturday, April 22, 2023 @ 2pm.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
