IRENE WDOWIAK Obituary

(nee Teren) February 1, 1932 ~ October 15, 2023
Irene passed peacefully in her sleep at age 91 with her son Wayne at her bedside, in Thunder Bay's St. Joseph's Hospice, after a short battle with cancer.

A longtime Red Cross Homemaker, an Honorary Member of the Westfort Prosvita Ladies Aux., an Executive of the Holy Cross Golden Agers, belonged to The Ladies Red Hat Society, and an Executive of the 55+ Club.

Irene helped for years, making Pyrohy - Perogi - Pedaheh at Westfort Prosvita and Holy Cross. Irene enjoyed being a member of her local community.

Irene had a love for many things including collecting Christmas Angels, Santas and Dolls, crafting, gardening, travelling to Casinos, Bingos and celebrating her Ukrainian heritage. Irene's Homemade Pyrohy - Perogi - Pedaheh were surely missed when she "retired" from making them at age 90.

Irene is the only person I know to get a butterfly tattoo on her shoulder at age 80.

Irene and Barney purchased a camp lot in 1960 at Sunset Lake, off of the Devon Rd. There they built a camp to enjoy every summer weekend for years, watching their family grow. Now Irene will join Barney at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Oliver Rd.

Predeceased by her husband, Bernard "Barney" Wdowiak in '99. Mother Stella (nee Hodwitz) Teren - Sopko, Father Jack Teren, Steve Sopko. Brother Philip "Sonny" Teran. In-laws Mary (nee Matyczuk) Wdowiak - Hlady, John Wdowiak, Peter Hlady.

Irene leaves behind three sons, Wayne, Jeffrey (Lynda) and Timothy as well as grandchildren Ashley (Adrian), Vanessa, Erica, Jackson (Candice) with great-grandchildren, Kaylin and Walker. Sisters Sylvia (Barry) Hogan and Beverly (Tom) Schoffer. Cohort Darlene - former daughter-in-law. Also numerous nieces, nephews and relatives.

As per Irene's wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Irene had requested for in-memorial donations to be made to the charity of your choosing in her name.

Dear Jeff, Sorry for your loss. I remember your mum for her gentle touch, kind spirit and supportive sympathies when my mum passed. She was a gem.

Sorry to hear of the passing of Irene. She spent many hours with our neighbour Sadie and with my mom, Catherine, making perogies at the Westfort Prosvita or going to the casinos. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time

Wayne, Tim, Jeff and families,

Our deepest condolences in the loss of your mom. Auntie Irene was a kind loving soul and lived life to the fullest. We will always remember her loving, beautiful smile. Her house was one of my girls favorite stops on Halloween night. She would always be dressed in Halloween attire waiting to give out a big bag of special treats. We loved her enthusiasm. We will miss her but find comfort knowing she is at peace and not suffering. God bless you all with strength, love and healing. Alan, Colleen, Alanah & Brenden, and Rachel.xoxoxoxoxo
