Isabel Kane Obituary

Isabel Marie Kane, aged 89, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2018 after a long and well lived life. Born to Henry Carey and the former Helen McBride, Isabel was raised in Peterborough Ontario. As a young woman seeking new adventures, she moved to Toronto and completed training as a nurse at St. Michael's Hospital. It was at St Mike's that "Nurse Carey" met a handsome young medical doctor, Dr Thomas Kane who would become her lifelong love and partner. They married on June 28, 1952 and moved to Fort William (now Thunder Bay). Their family grew and flourished resulting in a family of eight children. Isabel was much loved and will be missed by her children and their families: Loretta, Richmond BC; James, Vancouver, BC; Ann, Thunder Bay; Patricia (husband, Dr. James Scholey and children, Kathleen (Adrien) and Eric), Toronto; Paul (wife, Cindy and children, Thomas and James), Thunder Bay; Michael (wife Karen), Stratford; Martha (husband, Darryl Foulds and children, Dylan and Paige), Port Coquitlam, BC; and Andrew (wife, Donna and children, Megan and Jonny), Thunder Bay. In addition to her parents, Isabel is predeceased by husband Dr Tom Kane (December 20, 2010) and her brother, Jim Carey. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Chartwell Isabella, Roseview Manor, St Joseph's Hospital and the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion over the years. A special thank you to Dr Jennifer Fulford for her many years of care. In keeping with Isabel's wishes, cremation had taken place and a private family remembrance will be held. If friends so desire, donations can be made to St Joseph's Hospital or the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Isabel Kane will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 9, 2019.

So sorry to hear about the passing of Mrs. Kane. She was our neighbour on Cuthbertson and I enjoyed talking to her at Chartwell while visiting my mom. Our sincere condolences to her family, Jim & MC Gellert.

Paul, Cindy and family.
I am sorry for your loss. As a walker I was always motivated by watching your parents out for their daily hike.
