ISABEL PICKETT Obituary

October 6, 1962 ~ January 21, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Isabel Jean Pickett on January 21, 2025 at TBRHSC. She passed away peacefully with family by her side at the age of 62.

Isabel was born and raised on Fogo, Fogo Island, Newfoundland and Labrador. She had a large family with 11 siblings and was the second youngest. Her first job was at her father's convenience store that she helped manage and where she left a lasting impression on all those who knew her. She further worked in the restaurant industry and moved to Thunder Bay over 35 years ago where she spent the majority of her adult life. Other jobs included Dawson Road Truck Stop and the Wheelchair Doctor. Isabel was also a Community Support Worker for an individual with a disability. She was an exceptional and devoted mother to Jake, her son with special needs. Some of her fondest memories were getting together with friends and family, traveling across the border to casinos with Ed and shopping, as well as playing darts where she was very competitive and talented. She never missed an event or special occasion involving her grandchildren and would be gleaming with pride. She was 'the best nanny ever" as Kate and Kara would say.

Isabel is survived by her loving partner Ed Hill, devoted daughter Vanessa Pickett (Kevin Gilbart), sons Vincent Pickett (Iris Stunzii) and Jake Dawe, step-son Chris Hill (Sarah) and step-daughter Carrie Cava. She will be forever missed her grandchildren Kate, Kara, Leona, Corey, Caelynn, Dallas and Justin. Also left to mourn are sisters Myrtle Moss, Mildred Payne, Shirley (Calvin) Nippard, Donna (Oswald) Rowe, Mavis (Eric) Penney, Carolyn (Robert) Harnett and brother Ronald Coles, all of whom reside in NL. Isabel also has a large number of nieces and nephews, as well as close friends, including Kelly.

Isabel was predeceased by her parents Blanche and Garland Coles; brother Garland Coles Jr.; sister Ruby Groves; twin brother John at birth; sister Stella Nippard; and nephews Rodney and Dean Nippard.

Our family would like to give special thanks and appreciation to Dr. Megan Sellick at TBRHSC who ensured Isabel left this world in comfort, peace and dignity as well as the wonderful nurses on 1A, who provided exceptional care.

As per Isabel's wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a Celebration of Life to honour Isabel on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Jenkens Funeral Home, 226 S. Syndicate Avenue, Thunder Bay, presided by Rev. Msgr. P.M. Stilla. Visitation will begin one hour prior.
