Isabel Webster Obituary

July 21, 1918 – June 28, 2017

Miss Isabel Webster passed away peacefully on June 28, 2017 in St. Joseph's Hospice, 23 days short of her 99th birthday with her best friend Vicky by her side. Isabel was an only child and lived most of her childhood at Squaw Bay near Chippewa. She moved to Garden Avenue with her parents in 1944. Her father passed away in 1945. Isabel and her mother started growing flowers using cold frames. Then, with the help of her friend Len Vanderwees, a new greenhouse was put up. Growing flowers, taking care of her vegetable garden and bread making for the farmer's market became the centre of her life. She will be sadly missed by her cousins, friends and best friend Vicky. A private graveside service was held on July 5, 2017.

Thank you to the nurses and doctors at St. Joseph's, Todd and staff at Jenkens Funeral Home, the Valhalla Inn for the lovely lunch, the pallbearers: George Rempel, Bruce Atkinson, Art Towell, Steven Rempel, Paul Malench and Karen Malench. Thank you also to Don Gillett, Pastor at Grace Evangelical Church for the meaningful words of comfort and special thanks to Karen for an informative eulogy, to Robyn for taking care of the pictures and to Steven for always being there and providing assistance whenever needed.

I grew up on Garden Avenue and Isabel was such a defining influence for that neighbourhood. My mom, Kay Pasieka, was friends with her. I will be planting bulbs in her honour this spring. Please accept my condolences.

So sad to hear the news of Isabel's passing. I treasure the wonderful long letters she wrote me after my mother's death. My mother, Freda Foster, was Isabel's cousin and spent a year living with Isabel at Squaw Bay back in 1931 after her own father's death. They were like sisters back then and had a lot of good times together.
I always think of her when I pick sweet peas from my garden in England - she grew them for market along with other flowers and vegetables.
A truly remarkable lady.
