Ivy Shaw Obituary

(nee Hughes)

It is with profound sadness that we announce Moms passing on March 20, 2017 at Rainycrest Long Term Care with her family by her side. Mom was born in Rainy River on June 22, 1922 to Ivy and William W Hughes. She grew up with a large supportive family and passed those values on to her children. She was the family historian with an incredible memory for dates and relationships.

Mom and Dad were married on September 9, 1942. Mom was working in Winnipeg and Dad was in the Army stationed at Shilo. Five boys followed, all of whom were perfect in her eyes.

She liked nothing more than having her boys home together. She was proud of and supported each of us throughout our lives. Her love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren was always strong and from the heart. She will truly be missed.

Mom started working full time after moving to Fort Frances in 1961, First at Subway Grocery followed by the Royal Café and then many years for Sam Agnew and Barb Berry. Mom was a great volunteer belonging to the hospital auxiliary for over 50 years and the legion auxiliary for 75 years. She was also an avid bingo player for many years and could be found selling Legion 50/50 tickets around town every month.

Nancy is survived by her sons. Geoff (Karen) of Sault Ste. Marie, Ken (Pat) of Thunder Bay, Doug (Mary), of Kamloops, Greg (Shiela) of Fort Frances and Bruce (June) of Emo; Sister and brother in law Dode and Jim Herkes of Fort Frances; Sister in law Helen Hughes of Devlin.

She also leaves behind her grandchildren Pat (Naomi), Rebecca (Bryan), Eric (Claude) all in Toronto, Dr Annie (Paul) Cook in Bury St Edmonds England, Brad, Todd (Renae) Tookenay, Nancy (Duarte) all in Thunder Bay, Mandy (Charlie) Meloshe of Kamloops, Christine (Kevin) Paradis, Grand Cache, Geoff (Brooke) of Nanaimo, Erinne (Josh) Wreggitt of Fort Frances, Beverly (Chris) Churchill of Dryden, Ashley (Tom) Angus of Devlin and Jennifer (Mitch) of Emo; Great grandchildren, Phillip (Christina), Jennifer, Christopher, Vanessa, Zen, Isaiah, Emma, Kaydence, Aiden, Iliana, McKenna, Lily, Nicolas, Corban, Sophie and Great Great Grandchildren, Avery, Sieanna.

Nancy was predeceased by husband Geoff (1983), daughter-in-law Susan, brothers and sisters-in-law Ted and Jessie, Bubs and Jean, Vic, Bill; sisters and brothers-in-law Judy and Laverne Dimit, Betty and Ben Luckasavitch.

A service will be held Tuesday, March 28, 2017 11am at Green Funeral Home with Reverend MJ Leewis-Kirk AOJN officiating. A tribute will be provided by the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxillary.

We would like to thank the Rainycrest staff for their kind and compassionate care over the last 3 years. In memoriam donation can be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association Older Adults Program or the Rainycrest Auxiliary, c/o Green Funeral Home, 600 Reid Avenue, Box 427, Fort Frances, ON, P9A 3M8.

Christine Paradis

March 24, 2017

Heaven got a new angel on March 20, 2017. She was one of the kindest and strongest women you could ever meet. She loved and supported all of her family, and made a point of showing each and every one of us that she genuinely cared; and although she will be missed dearly here on earth, we know that she is in a better place. Rest peacefully Gramma.
