JACK ANDERSON 1930 - 2024
John Elis ("Jack") Anderson passed away peacefully in Thunder Bay Hospital on October 15, 2024 at the age of 94.
Jack was born in Port Arthur January 28, 1930 to Elis and Elmi (Elma) Anderson. Although he excelled academically, he left school at age 17 to work with his dad in construction. Tragedy struck in 1956 when his dad died in a car accident and Jack then took over and completed all their projects in progress. Jack went on to build his own construction firm, where his skill and hard work saw many commercial jobs completed throughout Northwestern Ontario, including new post offices, multiple new builds and renovations, and with many of the jobs at rugged and remote locations from light houses on Lake Superior to CBSA border crossings on lake islands between MN and ON.
In 1952, Jack met and fell for Lina Helen Opas ("Lynn"), a beautiful young woman he then married on November 27, 1954. This year was their 70th year of marriage, and what a life it was, working hard together in their construction business, wintering in Texas and Mexico regularly, building homes and in 1961 their camp on Cranberry Island Lake Shebandowan, and afterwards spending many years at Kashabowie and in British Columbia, making many memories and friends along the way.
Jack was a to the point kind of guy. He was an avid marksman, respecting the precision of the sport and earning multiple awards for his accuracy. He also appreciated good music, well built cars, German Shepherd dogs, nature and wildlife, and although he was a good shot, he never hunted much as the majestic animals deserved to live too.
Jack was predeceased by his parents Elis and Elma and his sisters Barbara and Jean. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Lynn (Lina), his children Craig and Janis and their families and his nieces and nephew.
We love you Dad. 'Til we meet again.
Cremation has occurred and private interment at Riverside Cemetery will take place at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
