Jack Mickelson Obituary

It is with great sadness that the Mickelson family announces the passing of their loving father â€" Jack "Turkey" Mickelson, 76 years, of Red Rock, Ontario who passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, with his daughter Cindy by his side, in the Hamilton General Hospital, Hamilton, Ontario. Jack was a veteran having served with the Canadian Army. He worked at mining in Geraldton, was employed with the Canadian National Railway and the Canadian Pacific Railway, served as a lighthouse keeper for many years and was a commercial fisherman with Chevrier fisheries. Jack loved being out on Lake Nipigon or Lake Superior. He was a Medicine Man who helped many people along the way and enjoyed using the Sweat Lodge at Lake Helen. Predeceased by his parents â€" Marie and George Nicholson, his wife Marian Mickelson (April 17, 2013), his son George (1996), his granddaughter Angel Lillian May Esquega, his brothers â€" Harold and Thomas and two brothers in infancy; he is survived by nine children â€" Mary Anne Mickelson (& Roger Nobis) and Marian Mickelson (& Joe Esquega) both of Biinjitiwaabik Zaaging Anishinaabek, Ontario, Tammy (& Marc) Paquette, Marie Mickelson (& Timothy Wawia), Dorothy Mickelson (& Narcisse Bain) and John (& Karen) Mickelson all of Nipigon, Ontario, Cindy Nicholson (& Terry White) and Douglas Mickelson (& Kim Anderson) both of Thunder Bay, Ontario and Edna (& Bernie) Leader of Fort Simpson, North West Territories, by twenty-five grandchildren, by five great grandchildren and by five siblings & George, James, Jean (& Bernard) Nantel of St. Jovite, Quebec, Mary Anne (& Guy) Harvey and Sally (Chester) Gallant all of Thunder Bay. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Resting at his residence, 89 Stadler Avenue, Red Rock where friends may call after 4 P. M. on Sunday, June 30, 2013. Prayers will be offered at the house on Sunday evening at 7 P.M. The funeral mass for Jack Mickelson will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 11 A.M. at the Church of the Annunciation, Nipigon with Father R. Morrisseau officiating, followed by prayers at the Sweat Lodge at Lake Helen, led by Rev D. Dupuis. Interment will be in Cliffside Cemetery, Nipigon. Friends so wishing may make donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Arrangements are in the care of Elliott Funeral Home Ltd., Nipigon. "
