James Allan Adams, 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a short, but courageous battle with cancer. Jamie was born in Port Arthur and briefly lived in Geraldton. Upon returning to Port Arthur, he attended PACI. He then went on to complete the Environmental Health program at Ryerson University. Jamie had a distinguished career in Public Health, primarily as Zone Director of Environmental Services for First Nation Inuit Health Branch. He dedicated his work to advocating for First Nations Communities in which he helped achieve positive change. He was very well respected and a mentor to many. In the past, Jamie enjoyed fishing trips on the Albany River and coaching
the Carrick All Stars. He also had lots of fun with family and friends at Big Thunder and Lappe Ski Center. Together, with his wife, Marilou, they completed numerous Sibley Ski Tours, the Manitoba Marathon and the El Camino trek in Spain. Jamie's simple enjoyments were watching the Packers in the garage, listening to great music (with Meaghan and Alex), and sharing laughs with friends and family. Jamie became a favorite of all the dogs in the neighborhood – making treats and giving pats to every furry friend that would refuse to walk by without a visit. Later in life, quiet evenings were enjoyed at Shebandowan Lake with his elkhounds, often with rye and cokes on the patio and chatting with his love, Marilou. His strongest motivation to fight through this impossible journey was to be around to witness the growth of his grandchildren. They were his heart, and the hardest part of his leaving this earth too soon. Jamie was a father, brother, mentor, friend to many and for this we are
filled with grief. Jamie will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Marilou nee Johnson. Father to Kenny (Sarah), Nathan, Meaghan (Mathew Toll). Loving Grandpa to Clark, Winnie and Sullivan. Dear brother to Elizabeth (Dave), Timmy (Diana) and Jeffrey (Lea). Predeceased by his Father Kenneth, Mother Fern and his brother John. Jamie will be sadly missed by cousins, nephews, nieces and his many close friends. At his request, Jamie has been cremated, a celebration of his life will be
held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Northwest Funeral Alternative. Donations to the Thunder Bay District Humane Society or the St. Andrew's Dew Drop Inn.

Marilou,
Simply do not know what to say except that I'm so very sorry to hear this news. You were married to an exceptional man. I know he will be missed and kept in the hearts of you and your family and close friends...but also by people like me who haven't seen him in decades but will always remember him as one of the good guys. I will keep him in my prayers although I'm sure he doesn't need them.

Sincere Condolences to the Adams family. I worked for 22 years under Jamie's leadership for the E.H.O. 's with Health Canada. He was always there to back us up when we had concerns, he was always fair and understood our situation. Loved our get togethers especially when we played euchre. Take care all.

Marylou and family, I was shocked and sadden to hear of Jamie's passing. Have many memories of "adventures" like the Christmas trip to Ogoki as santa and his elves. Or the annual baseball games. He worked hard and expected it from us, but when it was time to have fun, he was there to ensure we all joined in. You take care. Val

To Family and Friends of Jamie; I was saddened to hear the news today of Jamie's passing. I hadn't seen him or spoke to him since his retirement and sometimes wondered how he was doing. He was so excited about retirement, and looked forward to spending that time with family and friends. I met Jamie during my years as a health director for a First Nation. What I admired most about him was that he was a caring, down to earth guy who always looked for out of the box ways to do good things, even if the cards were stacked against him. Having known him was gift, and thank you to his family for sharing him with us throughout those years. Pam

A natural ally to the nations, James Adams has started his journey to the forever homelands. Jamie as we all knew him provided extraordinary relations to all Ontario First Nations specifically the North. His genuine attention to the health and welfare of our peoples will always be remembered and honored. Jamie was the Director for the Thunder Bay Zone, First Nation, and Inuit Health, he was a great leader and I admired him in how he treated us with the greatest respect and he consistently met our needs either on a personal level or as a nation. To family, friends, colleagues, sincere and heartfelt condolences I pray for healing and strength.
All medicines down and prayers up.
