JAMES BRUNO Obituary

It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Father and Nonno, James Bruno, at age 92. A longtime resident of Thunder Bay, James passed away peacefully on Monday, December 15, 2025, with his family by his side.

James was born on November 19, 1933, in Fort William and was raised in the East End. Following his schooling, he sailed on the Great Lakes before beginning his career as a stationary engineer, working for several companies. He retired from the Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital after 26 years of dedicated service.

On September 1, 1956, James married the love of his life, Hope White. Together they welcomed a son, Dean, and four years later, a daughter, Dawn, completing their family. James and Hope shared many loving years together until her passing.

James was a member of St. Dominic's Church and the Italian Society Principe di Piemonte. After retirement, James enjoyed travelling to Hawaii, Mexico, California, Las Vegas, and Italy. He especially cherished his yearly trips to Toronto and sailing the Trent Waterway System with his nephew Ken Kramer and his late wife Shirley aboard their yacht Our Sun.

James is survived by his son Dean (Eileen), daughter Dawn (Al), special granddaughter Marisa Slobodian (Corey) and newest pride and joy, great-granddaughter Quinn. He is also survived by his sister Marie Hope, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

James also shared a very special friendship with his dear companion, Jeannette Laberge, who brought renewed love and joy into his life. Over the past 25 years, they shared many wonderful memories together, including countless trips and adventures that they both cherished. Jeannette, you were not only so special to our Dad, but you also became a huge part of our family, and we are so very grateful for you. From many family gatherings, to cooking delicious meals, to wonderful BBQs that our Dad loved and truly enjoyed your love and care were felt by all of us. We will never forget the warmth, generosity, and love you poured into each of our lives

James was predeceased by his wife Hope; his parents, Louis and Mary Grace Bruno; his brothers Carmine, Anthony, Sam, and Joseph Bruno; and his sisters Madeline (Madge) MacDonald, Rose Pero, Jean Hart, Ann Tennant, Josephine (Pip) DePaulo, and Theresa Masetto.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Sister Leila Greco, who went above and beyond in caring for James over the past three years. A special thank you is also extended to the doctors and nurses at TBRHSC on 2C for the compassionate care they provided to our Dad/Nonno. A special thank you to Nurse Erika for her kindness, comfort, and support during this difficult time you are a truly kind soul.

Dad, you were the best father, Nonno and Bisnonno. You will always be the sunshine to our days. Rest in peace with Mom, your friends and family. We will miss you and cherish our abundance of special memories forever.

Love you Big Time; Dean, Dawn, Marisa And Quinny xox

Uncle Jimmy,

As my father went off to battle in WWII, and my mom, nick-named "Rosie the Riveter" physically supported the war efforts, I affectionately adopted you "My Big Brother" when at 3 years old, I bunked in the big "boys dorm" when we were temporarily living at the "family home" in "the Coal Docks."

For over 80 years there has been a sincere love, respect and bond with many good times together and a lot of wonderful memories that will last forever...Kenny.

Rest In Peace, Uncle Jimmy
