JAMES DOLCE Obituary

1943-2024
We are very sad to announce the passing of James Dolce due to complications from surgery June 1, 2024 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Jim was born May 25, 1943 at McKellar Hospital to Joe and Luella Dolce, the second of four boys. From an early age Jim displayed great athletic ability. He excelled at hockey, baseball, horseshoes and most of all bowling where he won many city awards. He had a total love of sports and countless hours were spent watching it on T.V. Many times he would coach from his chair to encourage his beloved Blue Jays, Green Bay Packers or New York Rangers to play better or criticize coaching moves.

Jim retired from Manitoba Pool 1 in 2002. He enjoyed the job as he was working with friends. If they weren't friends when he started, they were by the end of the day.

Jim was the kindest person to have in your life. He was a social being and loved being with friends and family. He had regular coffee and breakfasts with friends and nightly calls to all his favourite contacts. He loved his nieces, and he never missed a birthday or Christmas with a card and gift.

When Jim gave up driving it didn't slow him down one bit. He was up every morning and at the bus stop ready to start the day. He knew all the routes and had them all timed out and was cautious about getting a ride because then he would get to his appointments too early. Jim would say he didn't have a great memory but because he didn't have a mobile, he remembered all his important numbers. Who can say that now?

Jim was the glue and hub of family and friends and was constantly keeping in touch with everyone and seeing how they were doing. Now we must make the extra effort to keep that connection going.

Jim was predeceased by parents Joseph and Luella Dolce, brother Robert Dolce and sister-in-law Sharon Dolce. He is survived by his beloved JoAnn Dolce, (Altoona Wisconsin) Brothers John (Colleen), Joe (Gloria) nieces, Marcie (John), Leanne (Mark), Laura (Marty), nephews Brad and Julian (Abla) great nieces, Samantha, Alice, Brynn, Leah, Sofia and Mia, great nephew Greame, great great nephews Oslo, Felix and great great niece Penny.

To know him was to love him. He will be missed.
A celebration of Jim's life will take place at The West Thunder Community Centre, July 27 at at 11:00 am.

I knew Jim through bowling and accompanied him on many bowling tournaments in the USA.
I also bowled for many years with Jim on teams and leagues in Thunder Bay.
Jim was always a gentleman and offered advice and friendship especially to us young beginner bowlers.
He always had a smiling face, gentle attitude and will be missed by many friends and acquaintances he made throughout his life, RIP Jim

All of the staff at Mario's Bowl (past and present) always enjoyed seeing Jim. He always went out of his way to say hello when he came in, always asked how you and your family were and yes, asked about your bowling as well. He was a joy to bowl with and against for so many years.
On behalf of everyone at Mario's and from my family, please accept our deepest condolences on the loss of one of the kindest men that graced the lanes.
