Miss Jane Ellen Blanche Matthews, age 42 years, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 4, 2004. Janie was born in Port Arthur on July 4, 1961, and was a life time resident. She graduated with a Graphic Arts Diploma from George Brown College. From there she began her career with the City of Thunder Bay where she worked as the City Sign Painter to the present day. Her work and her love of painting were always very important to her. She loved good music, books and movies. Janie truly enjoyed Lake Superior and sailing with her dad on the "Alegro'; as well as spendingher summers since childhood at Silver Islet with her family and friends. Janie will be greatly missed by all of her many friends, family and co-workers and especially by her best friend in the world, "Dublin', her German Shepherd. She is survived by her sisters Nancy Eaton (Tom) and Sarah Thompson (Phil) en route from Barrie, Ont. , brothers Ian Matthews (Carolyn) and Tom Matthews (Debbie), nieces and nephews; Katie and Matthew Eaton, Colleen and Maryanne Matthews, Meagan and Olivia Thompson and Glory, Lucas, Melody and Isaac Matthews; uncle Joe Mahoney as well as by numerous cousins and other relatives. She was predeceased by her mother Lorraine Matthews in 1977 and father Monty Matthews in 1984. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 7th, when family and friends will gather in Corpus Christi R.C. Church for Funeral Mass beginning at 1:00 p.m. celebrated by Rev. P.M. Stilla, V.F. The services will conclude in the church. In lieu of flowers memorials to the St. Joseph's Foundation or the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre would be appreciated.
