JASMINE WATKINS Obituary

(nee Nyman)
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mrs. Jasmine Watkins who departed her earthly life May 8, 2024. She left far too young with love and optimism for the future of her relationships with the family and friends that were dearest.

Born in Thunder Bay March 28, 1990 Jasmine brought excitement and joy to her world. Although her career was short, after marrying the love of her life Christopher Watkins, she was the office manager, and law clerk for the Law Office that bore his name. It was during this time that she became mother to the most important relationship in her life, Christopher Junior. Loved by many, she was very passionate as a volunteer for several causes supporting persons with disabilities.

As Jasmine gained a deeper knowledge of her Métis heritage, she also worked diligently to bring awareness to many social issues impacting indigenous peoples across Canada. As a social media Content Creator, there were many followers who watched for her postings as she provided public education on the most pressing issues of the day at an international level. While residing in White Rock, British Columbia, in addition to her many social causes, Jasmine had been providing peer mentoring with persons recovering from addiction, and young adults experiencing several types of chronic diseases. She touched the lives and hearts of many with kindness, and a constant generosity of spirit that brought solace to all who were able to know her love.

Born prematurely, Jasmine was later diagnosed with a related severe form of heart disease in 2018, secondary to a life threatening pneumonia and the loss of the lower right lobe of her lung. After re-entering the hospital in 2023 she required extensive heart valve replacement surgery at The Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, BC. Following many challenges during those 3 months in the hospital's Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, including heart attacks and brain embolisms she had 6 wonderful healthy months at home with her husband and two dogs, Misha and Hudson. She passed away at home surrounded by love just after face timing with her son.

Jasmine was a fighter and survivor, and her diagnosis did not stop her from applying to the Indigenous Recruitment Programme at the University of British Columbia, and being accepted into its Psychology Programme.

Lost in love and grief, admired, in resilience, Jasmine will be deeply missed by her husband, Christopher, son, Christopher, Junior, and Stepfather David Shannon.

Should anyone wish to give a donation in Jasmine's name, they are requested to direct it Hannah House Centre For Women, Maple Ridge, B.C. A private Celebration of Life will be arranged by Christopher.

Jasmine was so kind. She saw that I was shoeless in the McIntyre center parking lot. She gave me her sandals and a few dollars and words of encouragement. Wasn't that just like her. She was a treasure. Her passing broke my heart. Dale.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Jasmine, but from this description I read of her, I feel we truly lost one of the worlds most beautiful individual, that would´ve gone on to do more great things. My heart hurts for you Chris, and Christopher Jr. and Dave Shannon, Jasmines Dad, to lose someone with this much fight, and so full of love. You three will have one of the most beautiful, loving, and guiding guardian angels anyone could ask for. May all the memories help you all through this trying time in your lives. Take care. Sending lots of love and healing prayers.

To her husband, son and family, I´m so sorry for your loss. I only knew Jasmine for a short time but she left a lasting impression. She was so sweet and kind to everyone around her even when she was suffering. She spoke about her husband and son with so much pride and love. Her enthusiasm for life was contagious and in those moments when I need some extra strength, I will think of Jasmine and her beautiful smile. As an angel her heart is finally strong enough to help everyone she wanted to in life.

Jazz was always a warm and wonderful person who everyone loves, you just couldn't help it. Even with the troubles she had to go through she'd be the first person trying to help someone else! With the love of her life Christopher and herself anyone who knew them had true friends who genuinely cares. Jazz will be greatly missed and we will be thinking of her husband Christopher and son Christopher jr, who I k ow will never be the same without her.

I just had started talking to her and she kept me positive while I was in the hospital. I just had received a heart transplant and she shared her photos of her surgery to me. She was a lovely soul that I'm fortunate to have got to talk to. Rest easy my friend.
