JEAN ARTHURS Obituary

Mrs. Jean Ione Jones-Arthurs passed away peacefully with family by her side on November 26, 2023.

Jean arrived in Canada from St. Matthias Gap, Barbados in 1959. She spent the next two years at Fort William Collegiate upgrading to meet the Canadian standards for education. Jeannie continued her education into nursing where she worked as a Registered Nursing Assistant, Registered Nurse, and finally graduating with her Masters Degree in Nursing. Jean spent many years teaching the Registered Nursing program at Confederation College where she met and remained friends with many colleagues and former students over the years. This is where she also met Clint Arthurs whom she married in 1981. Every Canada Day, Jean was very proud to sing O'Canada by the flag at the college.

Jean's faith and beliefs were extremely important to her and she was a member of St. Paul's Anglican Church for many years. She loved to sing and was in many choirs including St. Paul's Anglican Church, Lakehead Symphony Orchestra, the College Choir, and the International Choir, to mention a few.

Jean loved to travel. She visited England and New York where she spent time with her family as well as many places in Canada and her hometown in Barbados.

Jeannie is survived by her nieces, Cecelia, Sharon, and nephew Ricky Grant (England), step children Steven and Bernadette, Canadian sisters Fay (Rob) Steadwell and Bryer Wanecki and many Canadian nieces and nephews.

Jean was predeceased by her mother Lavina, father Donald, husband Clint, sisters Thelma and Isa, and Canadian parents Zip and Lorne Gleeson and Canadian brothers Rod, Gary, and Dan Gleeson.

Jean's family would like to thank Hogarth Hospital staff and her special care provider, Ali for all their wonderful care and kindness they provided Jean. Special thanks to Deborah Kraft for ministry, and Carolyn and Lorna for their assistance.

A Celebration of life will be held at St. Paul's Anglican Church in the spring of 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Anglican Church or a charity of choice.

One of the kindest persons I have known throughout my life. She aways had a smile on her face and a special laugh to brighten the day. Her belief in others and her willingness to help when ever she could made her stand out. She made a lasting impression on me as I'm sure she did to everyone that was a part of her life. One of God's earthly angels without a dought.

To the Gleason Family - Jeannie and I were colleagues at Confederation College for more than twenty years and I am so deeply saddened to learn of her passing. She was a remarkable woman and an outstanding nurse and nursing teacher who was loved and respected by her many students and colleagues. She loved her chosen profession and practiced nursing to the highest standards ; she expected no less of her students. One of Jeannie's most memorable qualities was her joyous laugh which would bring smiles to the face of anyone withing hearing distance.

Jeannie loved her Gleason family and spoke of you often with such fondness. My deepest condolences to all of you at this difficult time. Jeannie left an indelible mark and she will be greatly missed.
