Jean St.Germain Obituary
Jean Lois St.Germain (née Brown) passed away on March 18, 2025, in Thunder Bay, Ontario, at the age of 81. Born on February 3, 1944, in Current River, Ontario, Jean lived a life marked by compassion, adventure, and unwavering faith.
Jean's journey began in Current River, where she nurtured a love for learning and discovery that would shape her entire life. She attended Lakeview High School before following her calling in nursing at St. Giles Hospital School of Nursing, London, and later at King's College School of Nursing. Her career as a nurse was a reflection of her adventurous spirit and deep care for others. Jean's work took her to remote regions where she found purpose in community nursing. She pursued certifications in disaster nursing to be ready for any situation and found particular fulfillment working in geriatrics a field she described as both rewarding and challenging.
Jean's passion for travel was born long before she ever boarded a plane or train. As a child, she devoured books about faraway places, cultivating a curiosity that would lead her across continents. During her studies abroad, she explored England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland. She returned to Canada to the high Arctic, where she met her husband and began the next great chapter of her life raising a family. Together with their two daughters, they journeyed across Canada and the United States, camping and enjoying the outdoors. Later adventures took Jean through the Caribbean by sea. Among all the places she visited, Ireland held a special place in her heart, and she often dreamed of returning. She also hoped one day to walk the sacred paths of Israel and it's surrounding lands.
Jean's Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life. Her devotion was evident in every aspect of her being from her constant prayers to her generous spirit. She shared the gospel with joy and conviction and gave freely of her time and resources to ministries and charities both local and global. If you crossed paths with Jean even briefly there's a good chance she prayed for you.
A lifelong learner, Jean continually sought knowledge not for accolades but to better serve others. She was always enrolled in courses or acquiring new certifications that enhanced her ability to care for those around her. Her commitment to growth made her an impressively skilled professional and an inspiring individual.
Jean was also an extraordinary mother loving, devoted, and endlessly creative. Even while working full time as a single parent, she found ways to make every day special for her children. Her daughters always knew they were unconditionally loved and supported.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters Shawna (Mike) and Trista St.Germain; grandchildren Keith Dampier, Ariel Dampier, Eric Jeffries, and Ezra Jeffries; sisters Pat Peacock (Harold) and Betty Vella; brothers Ed Brown (Donalda) and Wayne Brown; sisters-in-law Bev Brown and Carol Brown we very special to her; she dearly cherished her friends Mary Armstrong, Diane King, and Joyce Dost.
Jean was predeceased by her unborn son Roger Ivan Richard St.Germain; father Ivan Brown; mother Anna Brown (née Swire); and brother Clive Brown.
Jean's legacy is one of service, love, ministry, and exploration a life fully lived in prayer, purpose and connection. "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." James 5:16
Jean's prayers live on in us and surely will echo down the generations. A Celebration of Life will be held on November 12, 2025, at 01:30 PM at Saalem Church, 21 Walkover St. Jean would love it if you honored her by wearing joyful colors to her celebration!
