Jody Powers Obituary
Jody Lee Powers passed away unexpectedly on June 7, 2018 in Ignace, Ontario at the age of 56. Jody was born on September 7, 1961 at McKellar Hospital in Fort William, Ontario, the 3rd child of parents Joseph and Kathleen Powers. Jody grew up in the Northwood area. He attended Agnew H. Johnston and Northwood High School. After high school he worked with the MTO for a few years. Since this work was seasonal, he decided to go back to school and became an RNA. Since graduating he worked with the City of Thunder Bay Dawson Court, until he decided to dedicate his work to Unifor Local 229. He retired in May 2018. He then took on a new challenge of working in Ignace at Raven Lake Lodge, a job he considered the best part of retirement. Jody met Kathleen in 1991, they were made for each other. Jody became an involved parent, from coaching baseball, taking Stephen, Donald and many of their friends fishing at Whitefish and Lac or going to hockey games and cadets. He was a father to Stephen and Donald, taking pride in their accomplishments. He loved his grandsons Lauchlan and Hudson and wished nothing but the best for them. Jody had many friends both life-long and through his working career. He will be mourned by all. Jody is survived by his wife Kathleen, and two children Stephen (Danielle) and Donald (Danielle) and their children Lauchlan and Hudson. His mother, Kathleen Powers, sister Jo-Ann Benedet (Dave), brother Jaye (Susan) and brother Jon. He is also survived by in-laws Brian and Dawn Niemi and their sons Boiyce (Ally), Daniel and Nathan. , nieces Shawna (Ryan and children Declan and Zoe), Kristin (his god-daughter) (Evan), Jody was predeceased by his father (Joseph), brother (Joel), infant nephew (Jordan) as well as his grandparents and other relatives. A celebration of Jody's life will be held Thursday, June 14th, 2018 at the Kakabeka Legion Br. 225 beginning at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to Rosslyn Road Humane Society would be greatly appreciated.
