Joe Brotherton Obituary

BROTHERTON
Tragically, on the morning of December 24, 2023, Joe (Joseph) Albert Brotherton, aged 61, passed away suddenly at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary. He had been struggling with post op complications following hip replacement surgery. Joe was born in Thunder Bay to Bud and Ruth Brotherton on July 27, 1962. He moved to Calgary in 1987 and lived there until his death. Joe enjoyed watching every kind of sport, particularly hockey, golf and football. Besides binging on Netflix movies, he also enjoyed reading, cooking and Vietnamese food. Joe particularly enjoyed sitting on his deck with his cat Smokie, watching the world go by. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Lavilla (Val). Joe is survived by his many siblings, who will all deeply miss their little brother; Mary Louise Haerle (Gary), Phil Brotherton, Ruth Kovac (Larry), Cathy Kempton (Jim), Sharon O'Connor (Kent), and Elaine Zeleny (Jim). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in Thunder Bay and Calgary. Cremation has occurred with a private family burial in Thunder Bay at a later date. The family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. James Powell, (Joe's orthopaedic surgeon) for all the kindness he gave our brother over the past few years. Donations in Joe's memory can be given to the DEK Foundation in Thunder Bay (www.dekfoundation.com) or the Meow Foundation in Calgary.
