John Benko Obituary

The family of John Benko 88 years old (formerly of Terrace Bay) is sad to announce his passing on Thursday July 8th. 2010. Born in Punnichy Saskatchewan, John was the youngest child of 16. John was predeceased by his beloved wife Sadie (Yarema) in 1992 and will be lovingly missed by 1 sister Margaret Bugyi as well as his son Robert, daughters Marilyn (Larry) Westlake and Valerie (Kevin) McGill and 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. A Funeral Service will be held at the Terrace Bay Community Church on Monday July 12th, 2010 at 11 a.m. with arrangements entrusted to the King Funeral Home in Schreiber. Interment will follow in Terrace Bay Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the long term care wing of McCausland Hospital in Terrace Bay, or St Joseph's Care Group in Thunder Bay would be greatly appreciated."

Dear family, i found this picture in the album of my father. On the back of the photo are the words : '' a souvenir from a canadian soldier. Johnny Benko, Ontario, Canada''. My father lived in The Hague during WW2. I am practicly sure that the man on the right is John Benko.
We are grateful to the canadian men and women who came to Europe to liberate us from the Nazi regime. And i think i speak these words also on behalve of my father (then 19 years old). I hope a shared a loving memory.
