JOHN BUCKLEY Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John (Jack) Stewart Buckley on May 13, 2025 at Roseview Manor at the age of 97.

Jack was a man of endless patience with a heart full of kindness. He was a well known, respected and caring teacher/guidance counsellor at Hillcrest High School. He loved his camp and sailing at Birch Beach, gardening and music, and was an avid skier since childhood. He was a dedicated member of Trinity United Church and an active volunteer with many local charities. Always a devoted father and grandfather, Jack set for his family an example of a life well-lived.

He is survived by his wife Janet (of 70 years), his sister Jean Meisenheimer, daughter Ruth (Shawn McDonald), sons John (Monica Strasser) and David (Gail Cameron). He is also survived by grandchildren Brittany (Kevin Golbeck), Laura and Jack Buckley and two great-grandchildren Austin and Brooks Golbeck. He will also be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his father R. Earl Buckley, his mother Hazel Buckley, sisters Elaine Buckley, Ruth Buckley, Grace Del Pino, brother Bruce and infant brother Richard. Also predeceased by his mother and father-in-law Doris and Erling Lund, stepmother-in-law Gladys Lund and brothers-in-law Eugene Del Pino and Arnold Meisenheimer.

The Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, June 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Church, 30 Algoma St. S., Thunder Bay. The service will also be available for viewing via Trinity Livestream on the Trinity United Church website. A private interment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, memorial donations to Trinity United Church or a local charity would be appreciated.

I will always remember Jack as unfailingly kind and generous, a wonderful man. He and Janet were treasured friends of my parents, Roy and Lois Wilson, fellow Birch Beach campers and fellow active members of the United Church. In the years following my dad's death in 2005, Jack & Janet--and John too--were always there for my mom.
I can't thank you enough, John, for making it possible for my mom to have that last glorious morning at Birch with her dear friends. This photo of my mom and your dad, taken that day (26 July 2024), reminds me of all that an energetic spirit can bring to the world.
My heartfelt condolences to Janet, John, and the whole family.

Janet and family:

Jack was such a fantastic man.
And, Janet, having you with him just made both of you complete and it was right.
I remember Jack from Telecare Thunder Bay.
He had the empathy that really shone through in the Telecare ministry.
Again, Janet and family, I know that Jack will be missed by all of his family and friends.
Just know that my prayers and thoughts will be with you all at this very difficult time .
Take care of yourselves and each other.
I moved back to Sudbury, Ontario in 2016.
