John Couzelis Obituary

John Couzelis, age 82 years of Thunder Bay passed, away after a short illness in St. Joseph's Care Group, Hospice Unit on April 2, 2008. John was born in Fort William on October 27, 1925. John proudly served on the HMCS Haida during WWII. After the war, he returned to Fort William to marry his childhood sweetheart, Merna. He held a variety of jobs and eventually trained and retired as a machinist. Photography, woodworking and gardening were among his many interests. His children's homes are adorned with John's woodworking handiwork. He was always willing to use his workshop for the benefit of friends and neighbours. John maintained his ties with former shipmates on the Haida and attended several reunions with his wife Merna. John will be sadly missed by his children Donna (Ted) Hamill, John (Cathy), Cathy (Bill) Furioso and Greg. He will also be missed by his grandchildren Kelvin, Laura, Shaunna, Crystle, Jesse, Matt, Alyssa, Jessica and great granddaughters Caitlyn and Bianca. John is survived by his brother George (Kathy), his sister-in-law Selma Couzelis and numerous nieces and nephews. John will also be missed by his Friday Night Garage Gang. John was predeceased by his loving wife, Merna, brothers Nick and Frank Couzelis, his parents Mike and Anna Couzelis, and his mother-in-law Signe Langcaster. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 8th, 2008 leaving the Harbourview Funeral Centre at 10:30 a.m. for the Service at 11:00 a.m. in the Greek Orthodox Community Holy Trinity Church, 651 Beverly Street at Balmoral, presided by Rev. Fr. Nikolaos Tambakis. Interment to follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with Prayers at 7:00 p.m. the same evening in the Chapel of the Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street. If friends so desire, donations to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation or St. Joseph's Care Group Hospice Unit may be made in Dad's memory."
