JOHN FREEMAN Obituary

JOHN FREEMAN
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Wayne Freeman on December 22, 2025, at the age of 81 at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital. He passed peacefully with family and friends by his side. John was born in Port Arthur, Ontario, on February 3rd, 1944, to William and Jane Freeman. On September 19, 1965, he married the love of his life, Margaret, and they had three children, Larry, Lori, and David. He also had two grandsons, Evan and Jason. He was a loving husband and kind father who enjoyed spending time with his grandsons teaching them how to be mischievous. John loved the outdoors; camping, fishing, hunting, trapping, and mushroom picking were the activities that filled his heart. He was an accomplished mechanic and truly a jack-of-all-trades. No obstacles kept him from what he wanted to do. He gardened every year, made cedar strip canoes, did leather working, painted; there was nothing he could not do when he put his mind to it. John was predeceased by his wife Margaret, who passed away March 14, 2025; his daughter, Lori, on April 28, 2021; his parents William (Francis) Freeman and Jane Fidler. The family takes comfort in knowing that John is now with his love, Margaret, and his pride and joy, Lori. John was predeceased by siblings; brothers, Bobby, Leonard, Jim, and sisters Kathy and Wilma were waiting for him in the afterlife. While his brother, Glen (Susie) Freeman, sisters, Bonnie (Brian) Smith, Mavis (Gary) Rinne, and Joyce Kurvits are left behind with many great memories and stories. John was lucky enough to have great in-laws when he married Margaret; Irma Wasyliw, Laila Knuuttila, Norma Mullen, Brenda (John) Hamalainen, and Bert (Pirkko) Ranta will miss him as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews on both sides of the family. We would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to the staff at Cancer Care, and especially to the staff of 2A who showed professionalism, empathy, and a true commitment to ensuring John was comfortable and cared for. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a future date.
