It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of John Gain after a short but courageous battle with cancer on February 23rd, 2019. John was born December 21st, 1952 in LaToque, Quebec. In 1965 their family moved to Thunder Bay. John was employed at Bowater as a pipefitter and mechanical planner, until his retirement in 2008. John is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judi; daughter Erin (Shaun) and son Matthew (Marcie); granddaughter Emma with whom he had a special bond. Dear Emma will miss her papa very very much! Also survived by his parents, Clare and Sheila, brothers Pat (Nancy), Steve, Jim (Roxanne) and sister Anne (Michael). As per John's wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held July 27, 2019 in his backyard garden, which was his labour of love!
Sincere thanks to Drs. Leishman, Aseyev, Davenport, Davis and Migay for your care of John. Also special thanks to the nurses and staff of the Cancer Clinic and Hospice. You always treated John with dignity.
Even though Erin, Shaun, Emma, Matt and Marcie were going through their own grief, you were still their for me. I love you all so very, very much.
~ Judi, Erin, Shaun, Emma, Matt and Marcie

Judi and family
We will certainly miss the presence of John throughout the neighbourhood. We will always remember him taking the snowblower to all of the driveways around yours when someone needed some extra help with the snow, and always being out in the yard puttering around. He was always there to lend a hand if needed. Our hearts are heavy and our thoughts are with you all.

I wish to send my condolences to the family of John Gain. I am saddened by your loss, and you are in my thoughts and prayers at this time. I knew John when he was a child in La Tuque, and we attended the same school. He was younger than I, and I remember him as a polite and nice lad. In La Tuque, I knew the Gain family, and had the pleasure of visiting his parents in Thunder Bay in 2011. May God bring you comfort at this very difficult time. Monique Julien-McInnes

To the Gain family, please accept my deepest condolences for your loss at this difficult time in you're lives. I worked with John at the mill for many years. He was always pleasant to be around & I enjoyed working with him while I was on the paper machines. We'd break it & John would fix it! Again my deepest condolences. Brett Cowie

It saddens me to hear of your passing, but I know you are in a better place now. We didn't spend too much time together over the years, but the memories I do have of you are full of fun and laughter. God Bless and make you rest in piece Uncle John!

John was an amazing brother that was blessed with an abundance of humour, teasing, wit and of course plenty of Irish Blarney! Sharing a room with him growing up, daily life & family vacations together were never boring and always more fun WITH him, than not. Our whole family will miss him dearly; my life was enriched by his presence and I will forever love ❤ and miss him!

Judi, I can't express well enough how very sorry I am for your loss. You are very lucky to have such a great family and support system. We are out of town until April but I will call you when I'm back and either come by to see you or take you out for a nice lunch. Take care my friend. Carol and Ron Giardetti
