John Hudolin Obituary

John Hudolin, age 91 years, father, grandfather and beloved husband to wife Phyllis for 66 years, passed away peacefully at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012 with his son by his side. John was born on September 10th, 1920 in Slovenia, Yugoslavia, coming to Canada with his family in 1936. Initially residing in Current River, it didn't take long for John to prove himself as a hardworking dedicated worker at Port Arthur Shipyards, Brayshaw Steel and Western Engineering. He worked on many ships in the Paterson fleet.John met his lifelong sweetie Phyllis at a local dance and they married right after the war on August 28th, 1945. Besides providing for his family, John loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and enjoyed many hunting trips with his brother-in-law Bill. He also enjoyed playing the accordion in a local band on Saturday nights, dancing with his sweetheart Phyllis at the Legion dances and socializing with friends at McDonald's after Mass. Together with Phyllis, he cherished the times they spent with their grandchildren at Hazelwood Lake and on their annual trips to West Vancouver.When you met John you were always greeted with a smile, a firm handshake and a hearty laugh. John was a member of the Canadian Infantry and RCME and a member of Branch 6 Legion. John will be lovingly remembered and missed by his devoted wife Phyllis, his sons Richard (Mary) and Jack (Maria), grandchildren Marissa (Lee Reckmann), Jonathan, Matthew and Amy. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Doris, his sister Mary, his brother Frank and several brother and sister-in-laws.Divine Liturgy will be held on Tuesday, April 10th, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of the Holy Cross, 415 West Victoria Ave., to be celebrated by Rev. Andrea Petresin. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday evening, April 9th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, with Panachyda at 7:00 p.m. If friends so desire, donations may be made in John's memory to the TBRHSC Cardiac Fund or a charity of your choice.
