JOHN LEGGE Obituary

The family of John Legge, 53 years old of Fernie, British Columbia sadly announce his untimely death Tuesday, February 17th, 2026, on a mountain outside of town as result of a sudden avalanche.

John was a veteran, alpine outdoorsman; experienced as skier, snowboarder and on this occasion snowmobiler. Always prepared, he was unfortunately at the wrong place at the wrong time. His joy in life was sporting activity in the mountains, this one no exception. He worked as a heavy equipment welder with Glencore Mining in the Elk Valley area. He had a prior extensive career tree planting in the west.

He leaves his wife Kim and son Jackson (Lethbridge AB), dad David Legge and stepmother Shelley Crawford in Shuniah, Ontario and Kim's family in Ontario (parents Jerry and Joan Doucette, brother Jerry (Deanna) and his children (Abby and Ben)). He had many friends in the Fernie area and Thunder Bay.

John was born in London, Ontario in 1972 and lived for many years in Thunder Bay, Ontario, with education at Hillcrest High School and Confederation College.

He was predeceased by his mother Marilyn Stewart and younger brother Stuart, both in Thunder Bay.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for March 7th at Cherished Memories Funeral Services in Fernie, B.C. at 1:00 pm Mountain Standard Time. Live streaming available (contact cherishedmemoriesfs.com). Donations are appreciated at Fernie Search and Rescue, or your choice.
