It is with great sadness the family of John Reginald Metcalf, resident of Grandview Lodge, announces his passing on Saturday, February 4, 2012 with the staff at Grandview Lodge present. Dad was born July 7, 1925 in Fort William to Frank and Ada Metcalf. Dad joined the Armed Forces at an early age and although he didn't serve overseas, this is where he met the love of his life, Myrtle. When they returned home from Ottawa, our Dad went to work for Batters Cartage, and later Parnell's Bread Co., then Dairy Best, then the Correctional Centre on Hwy. 61 and finally Lakehead University as a security guard until he retired in 1991. Dad enjoyed many activities, but disking at St. Luke's Church with his mom and dad and his children were especially fond memories. He also disked at First Presbyterian Church. Dad is survived by his wife of sixty five years, Myrtle; his children Reg (Ann), Terry (Maria), Larry (Connie), Kevin (Joy) and daughter Tracey (Gerry); grandchildren Robert (Darcey), Terri-Ann (Ian), Bradley (April), Daniel (Jenell), Melissa (Jason), Corey, Kevin, Rebecca, Taylor and Michael and five great grandchildren. Dad was predeceased by his parents Frank and Ada and brothers Robert (Marie) and Elgin (Stella). A celebration of our father's life will be held Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Jenkens Funeral Home, 226 S. Syndicate Avenue, with Rev. Gordon Holroyd officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Jenkens Funeral Home. Cremation to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations to the
Lung Association or the Northern Cancer Research Foundation would be appreciated. Many thanks to Steve Varga for being such a good friend to our family. Also thanks to the staff at Grandview Lodge for their kindness and compassion for our father. Thank you to Dr. Johnson for caring for our father. "
