JOHN MORRIS Obituary

JOHN D.G. MORRIS September 24, 1969 - January 28, 2024
Poet, Song Writer, Guitar Player/Busker, Athlete.
Dianne and Jim Morris are sad to announce that their youngest son, John, has suddenly and unexpectedly passed away at age 54. John (Johnny) was a special person - talented in many ways but with mental health problems that impacted his lifestyle. He was born in Port Arthur and graduated Lakeview High School where he was well liked and respected as a student and outstanding athlete - football, basketball, track. (He still holds the SSSAA Midget & Junior Hurdle records.) He spent one and a half years at The University of Toronto before deciding that structured education was not what he wanted. After tree planting for several years he travelled to British Columbia where he spent time with his Uncle John before returning to Thunder Bay and his life as a musician/busker. He was adamant that his busking was a service he provided for his passing audience and I'm sure many admired his efforts in all kinds of inclement weather. He continued to write poetry and songs - many are on You Tube. He was predeceased by his Uncle John; Uncle David and Aunt Mary; Grandparents Claude and Nora Morris; Dan and Bernice Wallwin. He is survived by his parents Dianne and Dr. Jim Morris and his older brother Derek. He is also survived by his Uncle Jerry and Aunt Liz; Uncle Dave Kawahara and Aunt Sheila; Uncle Bill and Aunt Joann Rippin; Uncle Grant and Aunt Wendy Laprade; Uncle Dave and Aunt Arley Gibbons; Uncle Ross and Aunt Barb Wallwin plus numerous cousins. Cremation has taken place and a family memorial will be held later in the Spring. Dianne and Jim would like to thank the many people who helped Johnny on his journey through life. We continue to marvel at his amazing thoughts and insights, his quick wit and his many talents.

May he rest in peace in a better place.

My condolences to Jim and Diane and the rest of John´s family. I never met your son John but heard so much about his many talents. He waswas much admired by my youngest son Jonathan Inksetter, a high school buddy. Although they lost touch over the years they accidentally ran into each other a few years ago and enjoyed a great reunion. I heard many tales of his genius song writing and poetry. I believe many wonderful hours were spent together in their youth being creative. He was certainly a much loved and admired friend.

Dr. and Mrs. Morris - I´m very sorry for your loss. John will always be a bright light to me - someone with whom I am grateful to have grown up with and someone who taught me a lot about life. I´m terribly sorry that I never thanked him for that.

So sorry to hear of John's passing
I never knew his name but would always see him outside Renco singing and playing his guitar
He had a great repertoire of songs and he genuinely seemed to be enjoying himself
I'm sure he connected with many people he always brought a smile to my face
I will miss seeing him and hearing him belting out the tunes
RIP John

So sorry to hear of John's passing. My condolences to his family.

I met John in high school thru mutual friends and we competed against each other in sports, but we spent the summer of '87 in the same division at the Navy summer program and we got to know each other well. Intelligent, funny, engaging, talented, kind hearted guy that I have fond memories of from our youth.

Sorry for you loss.
