John Ross

The family of John Henry Ross sadly announces his passing at the age of 83, on August 19, 2011 at Wilson Memorial General Hospital in Marathon. John was born and raised in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, and as a young adult he moved to Toronto where he met and married the love of his life, Eileen O'Hara. John and Eileen moved to Marathon where they raised their four children while he was employed by American Can, until his retirement after many years as a locomotive engineer. In his youth, John was an amateur boxer known as "Rock-A-Bye Ross" due to the time he spent laying on the canvass!! He was a very quiet and thoughtful man who was dedicated to his family. Over the years he was very involved in Minor League Hockey and also enjoyed fishing, hunting and beachcombing. Predeceased by his parents - Eileen and John Ross, his loving wife Eileen and his sister Jeanette. He is survived by his four children - Patrick (& Bonnie) Ross, Molly Ross, Jackeline (& Brian) Assad and John Ross as well as his two grandchildren - Krista and Kelsey Assad. According to John's wishes, cremation had taken place and services will be held at a later date. Friends so wishing may make donations to Wilson Memorial General Hospital or to the charity of their choice. Arrangements are in the care of Elliott Funeral Home Ltd., Nipigon. "
