JOHN SDAO Obituary


John (Johnny) Albert Sdao, age 88 years, passed away peacefully at St. Josephs Care Group Hospital on Thursday, December 25th, 2025 in Thunder Bay, ON. John was born on June 5th, 1937. He was one of six children to Francesco (Frank) and Frances Sdao. On October 29th, 1966 he married the love of his life, Donna Lynn McCuaig and together they raised two children living in Fort William, ON (Thunder Bay). John enjoyed boxing, going camping, fishing and hunting. He was most at ease with his family gathered around him for whatever reason. He worked various jobs before settling in at Great Lakes Pulp and Paper (Avenor). He was a loving and caring husband, father and papa and will be terribly missed. John is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by his wife Donna; children Jennifer (Parker/Abigail) and Chris (Paula, Alison, Samantha); sisters Rose Barzan and Rita Georgison; and many nieces, nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Peter, Ralph and Anthony; brother-in-laws George Georgison and John Barzan; sister-in-law Donna Sdao. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 29th, 2026 at 2 pm at St. Agnes Church celebrated by Father Larry. A luncheon will follow after the mass in the church hall. A private Interment for family members will follow at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Northern Cancer Research Foundation, or a charity of your choice.

What a great co-worker /friend first to give a helping hand or share his knowledge. His outside was tough as nails but kind and caring. Sorry for the loss of your Dad Chris, he is resting easy now enjoy all the memories he left you with. Thinking of you and your family at this tough time.

RIP John, I still remember back in the 50s when you took me to the Lake theater every saturday, you were a great guy.
