JOHN SHEWCHUK Obituary

JOHN SHEWCHUK
It is with monumental sadness that the family of John Robert Shewchuk announce his sudden passing after a very short illness on Saturday, March 8th 2025 at his home. John was born in 1953 on August 15th in Port Arthur. John was born into the middle of what would become a large family. He attended Grandview Public School and later Hammarskjold High School, where he would meet the love of his life Karen, due to her noticing he never wore socks. John went on to work in the family business Port Arthur Lumber.

John, despite his grizzled appearance, was always loved by children and animals as they saw past the beard and scowl and saw the gentle soul he was. John had a charismatic aura and leaves behind a large tapestry of friendships. John was always there to help out and if he couldn't he knew a guy. John was always very proud of his younger hockey playing youth, his time playing fastball with the Baird-Dodgers, his 1973 Dodge Challenger, but above all his 3 grandchildren Maddyson, Jake and Connor. John also looked forward to his bi-yearly trips to Holinshead Resort with his Buzzin Half Dozen and their accomplices. He also loved spending time at the family camp, which was his favorite place.

John will leave a hole in the hearts of his family. He is predeceased by his parents William and Kate Shewchuk (Matheson) and his wife and light Karen (Opas). John leaves behind his son Todd and daughter Beth and son-in-law Jeff Hillis. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters Joanne (David St. Germain), Jim (Cathy), Patricia (Alan Vaillant), John, Peggy (Brian Hainrich), Willie (Gloria), Nancy (Rob McCluskey). John also leaves behind a loving family in his wife Karen's brothers and sisters. And all his nieces and nephews on both sides.

John's life will be celebrated this summer.

If anyone desires please donate in his name to the Thunder Bay Humane Society, that would mean a lot to him.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
