John Wallace Obituary

1927 – 2015

John (Jack) David Wallace passed away peacefully in St. Joseph's Hospice with family by his side on December 13, 2015 after a lengthy battle with Cancer at the age of 88. Born April 6, 1927 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Michael and Mary Wallace, Jack was the eldest of 8 children. He was predeceased by his brothers: Michael Jr., Andrew, Arthur and George; sister, Joyce and most recently, by son-in-law Lea Archer (Vancouver). A devoted family man, Jack is survived by his wife of 65 years Mildred, children: Valerie and daughter Lori Archer (Vancouver), Glen and wife Denise, Jacqui Soulias husband Taxios and children Stephen Paju, Elena and Alexandra. He is also survived by sister, Mary-Anne (Bill) California and brother, Raymond (June and Ryan, Adam) as well as other nieces and nephews. John met the love of his life (Millie) on a train from Chicago, the only two passengers destined for Fort William. Growing up in the depression, Jack educated himself and bettered his position in life through various work careers. These ranged from sales (Powell Equipment), management (Can Car), private business (Main Hotel, Red Rock), to Safety Inspector (Ministry of Labour). His interests included the Masonic Connaught Lodge A.F. & A.M., being a member of the Scottish Rite, as well a member of the Lakehead Shrine Club, serving on the Riverside Cemetery Board, the United Church Men's Club. He also loved playing the harmonica and as well hunting and fishing with his Red Rock friends. Jack was known for his amazing repertoire of jokes and stories. An articulate speaker, he was frequently requested to speak at public functions. He was proud of his developing a Boxing Club in Atikokan in the 50's. Advisor and advocate for the less fortunate, Jack's ethics and fairness made him a compassionate friend of many. Family meant everything to him, he will be missed. Funeral services for the late John (Jack) David Wallace will be held on Wednesday, December 9th, 2015. A Masonic Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. in 1st Wesley United Church, followed by the Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Hewitt Holmes officiating. Valerie, Glen and Jackie,
I am very sorry to hear about your dad and so glad I got a chance to see him at my mom's birthday party a year ago in October. I have fond memories of him on Heather Crescent. He was well liked by all the kids. He was very kind to mom and dad, especially when dad was ill in his latter years. He was someone one can be genuinely glad to have known.

SIncerely,

Dave Nancekivell (Montreal)

Millie and family. I am so saddened to hear of Jack's passing today. Unfortunately, I heard after the funeral from my friends in the Elk's Klown Band, so I was not at the funeral and for this, I am so very sorry. I just can't believe he is gone and I will never have another dance with him. Millie, I hope you'll keep in touch with me. We just found each other, and now, this. May your faith carry you through this trying time. Know that we will all be together again one day. Love and hugz, Dianne

Millie, Glen, Denise, Jacqui, Taxios, Valerie and all the Wallace Family

Leeann and I want to express our deepest condolences on the loss of your loved one, Jack.
We have always been so warmly welcomed when your family would meet at Glen and Denise's home for Birthdays and such. I fondly remember Jack's stories and jokes, especially at Glen's Super Bowl parties. Jack never missed them and usually brought a big batch of his special chicken wings for everyone to enjoy. He always had the best seat in the house. The one that had the best view of the game and also gave him the best seat to tell his stories and jokes.
We will sadly miss him.
We are out of the country and won't be able to attend the service.
Our Thoughts & Prayers are with you all!

"Uncle" Jack was the BEST jokester, memories around the camp fire at Ray & June' s corn roast. Laughter kept us all moving our chairs closer to make sure we didn't miss a punch line.
