JON DEL BEN Obituary

JON GENO DEL BEN
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jon Geno Del Ben, a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay. He was born on January 19, 1948, and passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his children.

He is survived by his dearly loved children Sabrina Del Ben, Megan Fitzgibbon (Brandon), and Sean Del Ben (Zaira Petruf) who were the greatest pride of his life. He was a proud grandfather of Taryn Del Ben, Owen and Noah Fitzgibbon, and Zane Del Ben.

Independent, often quiet, and deeply stoic, he lived life on his own terms and led a simple, grounded life. Beneath his reserved nature was a loyal heart and a deep love for his family. He lived a meaningful life, guided by principle, integrity, and compassion for others. His work reflected a strong commitment to economic development in under-served First Nations' communities, a cause he believed in deeply and pursued with dedication.

He was always up for blues music, a glass of wine, and a thoughtful political debate. Those who knew him well will remember his quiet humour and insightful conversations.

He was welcomed home by his beloved parents, Geno and Catherine (nee Phillips) Del Ben, his special 'Uncle Dave' Phillips, and his grandparents, Amadeo and Palmira Del Ben, and Elizabeth and Thomas Phillips.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family and friends.

A small Celebration of Life will be planned for the summer. If friends or family desire, donations in Jon's memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of their choosing.

Earlier today

My condolences to the Del Ben family and friends. Everyone my age, would remember Jon from his early days, working as an usher at the movie theaters. He was custom made for that job and was respected and well liked by all that knew him. Whoever wrote Jon's obituary really captured who Jon was. Grieving is painful, but take some solace in knowing that Jon was a good man and really did live his life in a very meaningful way. Thank you, Jon, for all that you gave to me and others.
