Joseph Gobeil Obituary

Joseph Armand Real Gobeil otherwise known as “Ray” born May 17th, 1932 in the eastern townships of Quebec, Lac Megantic - a very large family of course. Nice small town, but when word came from Uncle Gordon of opportunities in a place called Marathon, the bag was packed. Jobs were good at this place and comradery even better. Winnings at the billiard table were not to be thrown to the wind, but a milkshake from the Everest was a good call for this gal named Carol. And there it began, a great career, fishing, baseball, golfing, bowling, and some card playing too. Sons Robert, David, Stephen and daughter Elizabeth followed in short order. Of course, there was the progression from the Honeymoon apartments to 33 Ross Street then Manitoba Street. Great times on Manitoba Street, the best ever Sunday dinners prime rib and Yorkshire pudding, whatever you were doing, best show up for Sunday dinner. Many a winter spent in Florida at the beach doing something and or nothing, even better. He enjoyed the neighbourhood a great deal, Michael Blanch (Radar), the Ross', Alec across the street, Dafoe's, Amadeo's, Paddy and Audrey, of course the Orzeck's and so many more. Ray leaves behind to continue on his wife, Carol Gobeil, sons Robert (Nancy), David, Stephen (Janet), and his daughter Elizabeth. He leaves behind his grandchildren Victoria (Trevor), Timothy (Brittany), Christina, and Matthew who all warmed his heart dearly and brought so much happiness to his home on every visit. On February 24th, Ray left us very peacefully in the company of his beloved wife, surrounded with the support of two of his sons and their wives, and for that we are forever grateful. Now, we have but memories, very good memories. There is no service as were his wishes. In lieu of flowers, donations to the WMGH Hospital site “new x-ray machine fund” is gratefully appreciated.
