It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Joyce Lorraine Tucker, on August 19, 2025. She passed away peacefully with family by her side, just two days before her 91st birthday.
Joyce was born to Mike Mills and Florence Chabonik (Mills), and grew up with her two brothers, Kenny and Tommy, and two sisters, Shirley and Dorothy.
As a young girl, Mom excelled in swimming and competed in many races. She cherished spending girl time with her close friends Ivy, Wilma, Sarah, and Eleanor, a friendship circle that remained strong throughout their lives.
She met the love of her life, Thomas Ronald Tucker, lovingly known as Ronnie. They were married on January 19, 1952. Together, they had seven children, creating a very busy (and lively) household. With Dad often away working on the grain ships, Mom took on the full responsibility of raising us. She wasn't just a mother to her own children, she became a maternal figure to many of our friends in the East End as well.
Mom loved to travel, and she and Dad shared many adventures, which she fondly reminisced about. One of her favorite memories was a trip to California and Las Vegas with her dear friends Sarah, Peter, and Jake.
Over the years, Mom worked at several businesses including the New York Tavern, The Royalton, The Red Cross Society as a homemaker, Guide Publishing, the Elks Club, and volunteered as a proud member of the Royal Purple Ladies Auxiliary.
In her later years, nothing made Mom happier than spending time with family, sharing dinners, enjoying local restaurants, and always making sure her hair was done and she looked her best. Those nights meant the world to her, and her smile said it all.
Joyce is predeceased by her husband Thomas Ronald Tucker, brothers Kenny and Tommy, sisters Shirley and Dorothy, daughter Cheryl, son Tommy, son-in-law Marcel Binette, daughter-in-law Kim, grandson James, and her parents Mike and Florence Mills.
She is survived by her children: Rona, Florence (lovingly known as Bunny, with Enzo Rubert), Jimmy, Susan (Jack Byerly), Gordie (Shawna Zimmer), and son-in-law Wally Cheppenko. She also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A special thank you to son-in-law Jack, for always keeping Mom laughing and being there for whatever, she needed. She truly loved you.
We would also like to thank the Cardiac Unit 3B at TBRHSC for the care and compassion they showed Mom in her final days, and extend our deepest gratitude to the Renal Dialysis Unit at TBRHSC for the exemplary care she received. She spoke so highly of each and every one of you.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Renal Dialysis Unit at TBRHSC would be greatly appreciated.
A small family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
