Jutta Schlingmann Obituary

Ms. Jutta Schlingmann, 61 years, resident of Thunder Bay, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 30, 2016. She was born to the late Lisbeth Prade and Gerhard Schlingmann, March 20, 1955, in Minden, Germany. Always one to think of others, Jutta spent much of her time making quilts or other homemade gifts to give to family and friends and their children. Jutta was a passionate quilter with a big heart and many of her quilts she donated to the charity, Wrap Them in Love, which collects donated quilts and distributes them to children around the world. Jutta is survived by her partner Gabe; her son Earl (Jessica), her granddaughter, Arisa; her sisters, Judi (Tom) and Hannelore (Louis); her brothers Karl (Elaine) and Jochen (Lisa); her nieces Dawn, Wanda, Connie, Heike, Birgit and nephews Mark, Ryan, Curtis. She is also survived by thirteen great nieces and nephews, and several dear long-time friends. Cremation has taken place and no service will be held, as per Jutta's wishes. The family has requested that donations be made to Wrap Them in Love.

Remember Me

Do not shed tears when I have gone, but smile instead
because I have lived.
Do not shut your eyes
and pray that I'll come back, but open your eyes and see
all that I have left behind.
I know your heart
will be empty because
you cannot see me, but still,
I want you to be full
of the love we shared.
You can turn your back
on tomorrow and live
only for yesterday,
or you can be happy
for tomorrow because
of what happened
between us yesterday.
You can remember me and grieve that I have gone or
you can cherish my memory and let it live on.
You can cry and lose yourself, become distraught and turn your back on the world
or you can do what I want - smile, wipe away the tears, learn to love again and go on.

I am Free

Don't grieve for me,
for now I am free,
I'm following the path
that was laid for me.
I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love,
to work or play.
Tasks left undone
must stay that way,
I found the peace
on a sunny day.
If my parting has left a void
Then fill it
with remembered joys.
A family shared, a laugh,
a kiss Oh yes,
these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened
with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine
of tomorrow.
My life's been full,
I've savored much,
Good family, good times,
a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time
seemed all too brief,
Don't lengthen it now
with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts,
and share with me,
I have left this world,
but now I am free.

I am so very sad to hear of Jutta's passing. I knew Jutta since grade one and we were friends in high school and kept in touch through letters for a few years after. I loved receiving her newsy long letters with her beautiful handwriting. Jutta was a very caring person who was herself and real. I was blessed to see some recent pictures of her with her lovely family as I hadn't seen her in many years. And I must say that she had aged gracefully and looked beautiful and very good indeed. I say 'aged' cautiously because she wasn't old and left us way too soon. I also saw on facebook the amazing quilts that she has sewn with such skill and talent. She will be long remembered in many ways. My condolences go to Jutta's family and loved ones. My thoughts and prayers are certainly with you at this very sad time.

My beautiful Q. How I will miss our time. Our laughter , our dinners , our talks. I hope all the hurt is gone and heaven knows the angel it has received. Until we meet again.

I have known Jutta since we were six years old, and we attended all the same classes right from first grade through to high school school. She was one of the most interesting and creative women I have known. Jutta cherished her family, and kept in touch with old friends from her Atikokan years. I rejoiced with her when her son was born, and again when her granddaughter joined the family. I mourned with her when family members passed away. We exchanged letters and then it changed to emails, which made corresponding easier. Jutta had a big heart and it showed in all she did for others, whether it was for family or for a charity. I looked forward to her newsy messages with numerous photos attached, and felt like I was there with her. Jutta will be missed. I miss her already. May she rest forever in peace and may her memory stay in the hearts of all who were a part of her life.
