Kalevi Maki Obituary
MAKIMr. Kalevi Maki, age 73 years, resident of 1351 Oliver Road, passed away peacefully to his home in Heaven, on the day of his and wife Ritva's Wedding Anniversary, Wednesday, October 11, 2000 surrounded by his family. Kalevi was born on July 24, 1927 in Kauhajoki, Finland. He emigrated to Canada and Thunder bay in 1956 with his wife Ritva (Anttila) and their children Katja and Taina. He was a carpenter by trade, and a member of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners for forty years, retiring in 1992. Kalevi was a loving husband, father and grandfather; his main interest being family - especially his grandchildren. Kalevi will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his wife Ritva; five children Katja, Taina (Walid) Chahal of Thunder Bay, Della (Nick) Bitove of Ireland, Roy (Piper Courchesne) of Toronto, Lars (Shannon) Lahtinen; ten grandchildren Tammem, Jameel and Yasmin Chahal, Nicolas, Jake and Emma Bitove, Elijah Maki, Kai Maki, Lexi and Jalen Lahtinen; brothers and sisters in Finland, and his only other relatives in Thunder Bay, Clara Maki and her family. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 16th at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Rev. Marko Selkomaa of Finnish Pentecostal Church. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens.Visitation for family and friends will be one hour prior to time of service. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Kalevi's memory to a Children's Charity."
