The family of Kathy McLeod is saddened to announce her sudden passing on October 8, 2024.
Katherine Rose was born on December 21, 1941 at the Mudflats in Nipigon. Kathy grew up surrounded by a large family and group of friends. She would often share the great memories and stories she had from growing up with friends who she met while out running errands or reminiscing with family over a game of cards.
Kathy worked at the Nipigon plywood mill for many years and built friendships with her colleagues that lasted into her retirement. She was a member of many community groups such as the Catholic Women's League, the Nipigon Figure Skating Club, bowling league and was sure to attend the many events organized by the Red Rock Indian Band such as the Living with Cancer support group, and elder card games. Kathy looked forward to connecting with the women attending full moon ceremonies every month.
Over the past few years, Kathy has had many health issues. She approached every obstacle with a positive attitude and determination to overcome so that she could be out socializing with those closest to her. Our Noki loved having her family over for lunch where she would make her famous pots of homemade soup and let the 'babies' shop in the fridge for the treats she always kept stocked for them.
Predeceased by her parents Marie and Mike, her daughter Cheryl, sisters Evelyn Wright and Selina Pelletier and brother Ernie McDonald.
Kathy is survived by her daughters Lori (and George) Drazenovich of Thunder Bay, and Karen (and Teddy) Watson of Nipigon; grandchildren Paige (and Cory) Fortier, Hailey (and Allen Dyck) Watson, Cole (and Analise) Watson, Brooke (and Brysen Evans) McLeod, Aila Drazenovich, Kathleen (and Morgan Howell) Whatley, and Jack Whatley; great-grandchildren, Bryce, Nate and Kate; and a large extended family.
The family would like to thank Wendy Houston for her years of dedicated care, the driving staff of Driving Miss Daisy and her extended family and friends who allowed Kathy to remain in her home during dialysis treatments and the staff at the renal unit at the TBRHSC for their professionalism and compassion.
There will be prayers offered for Kathy at the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Nipigon on Friday, October 11, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. followed by a Funeral Mass on Saturday, October 12 at 11:00 a.m.
